Beyond the durability difference R4/R1, there is a diameter issue to overcome, and usually requires a wheel/rim change.

Thanks guys... I didn't realize the R1's were less 'sturdy'. I think I'll stick with the R4's and just fill them.

It is best to work in the woods in your driest seasons, less rutting and tracking everything up. Agree on the R4 tires for this use as they are much more durable and that is what you have already.

Yep. R1 tires are optimized for traction in muddy agricultural fields. They are the traditional tractor tire. R4 tires are optimized for operation in construction areas and compromise on traction in loose, muddy and soft ground for increased durability on pavement and resistance to sharp obstacles. R4 tires are kinder to lawns than R1 tires but neither comes close to turf tires. Turf tires are at least as vulnerable to sharp objects as R1, probably more.

I've never owned a tractor with R4 tires before, mainly because all my tractors are used for farming applications. When I bought my small L Kubota I'd debated about getting R4 tired but ended up sticking with R1 since I knew how they would perform and didn't want to regret anything. I think with a small tractor like this, all the traction I can get is a bonus and helps it out.

I also prefer R1 tires, even put them on our UTV. :D

I went through the same idea but agree with the others, r4's will be better overall. The heavy mud was really the issue but with the 4wd and bigger tires (than most other brands) on the front it was not an issue. My Kubota was bad in the mud with the wimpy fronts they use. That was one deciding factor on the Mahindra, congrads and have fun.

Proper rear balast helps small fronts in mud. Less is needed with the largenfronts on the mahindra.

Things I learned/missed/need to figure out:

2) the brakes need some work I think. They are somewhat mushy and occasionally seemed less effective than I thought they should be on hills.

The brakes on tractors are not much, because tractors do not move very fast.

Tractors only have brakes on the REAR WHEELS. If you are in 2-WD and going downhill, so tractor weight shifts forward, your braking is approximately nil, which can be just too exciting. Therefore, operate your tractor in 4-WD unless you are on concrete or asphalt. With 4-WD engaged you have a semblance of four wheel brakes in all conditions. Your HST provides a certain amount of slowing force too.

Your brakes are likely tractor "normal".

I always wear the seat belt. I wear steel toe boots or shoes and eye protection when operating my tractor.

My, my, this is a l-o-n-g thread-----------
