When you say the dealer is doing the install, do you mean the Laurin dealership or Kubota where you bought your L45 ?

The cab is being installed by my Kubota dealer DieselnHooters.

Steve has nothing but good things to say about the cab on his 110 Martian so you'll have to bite the bullet some day! I was back at the dealer yesterday to check progress and they have most of Humpty Dumpty back together again. I took it for a spin around the yard to warm it up and check out the heater and even with the back window off it was blowing enough heat to chase me out of the cab.

I am really pleased with the quality of the cab Paul but the dealer is struggling to figure out how to install the three rear remotes right now. The L45 comes with a plastic piece molded into the rear of the right fender with the three slots already in it for the rear remotes but the Laurin instructions actually require that this protrusion be cut off in order to install the cab. In addition the Laurin ROPS does not have the mounting holes required for the rear remotes. I know that the used M59 I looked at last year with the Laurin cab had the rear remotes on it and they were accessible from the backhoe enclosure so I'm sure the dealer will figure something out. If not, I may have to send you some pictures Paul and hire you as a consultant to sort this out!

I am also thinking pretty seriously about installing a Grammar air ride seat. I have foamed the tires on the L45 and it is not an issue on job sites but I find that if I am doing loader work over any distance the L45 is quite bouncy. I already have a rotate mechanism in the L45 seat Paul - do you think I could install a Grammar seat on top of it or do I need to go a different route?

Regards,

Lauren

No problem Lauren. If you need any help just let me know. I might be able to come up with something . as for the seat. There is low profile air ride seats that are designed to be added to the existing seat frames. I'm sure it can be done. Your going to have some nice unit when it's completed.

Unfortunately the Laurin cab installation on my L45 is not yet complete. The mechanic who has been working on it was off sick for a couple of days last week and installing the rear remotes has been more trouble then anticipated. In the attached photos Kubota actually extends the gray plastic molding where all the side controls are beyond the factory ROPS with three slots in it for the remote levers. The Laurin installation instructions require that the extension with the slots be cut off in order to install their cab. As a result, the mechanic has fabricated the extension rods you see to provide a new location for the levers. The location is much higher but I think it will work well for me as this location does not infringe on the interior space when operating the backhoe and I need all the space I can get. It was a cool, damp weekend here and this morning the temperature is 3C so I am looking forward to getting my fall work started next weekend in comfort!

For those who might be interested, I have thrown in a photo of the ripper for the L45. The ripping portion is about 26" long and the steel is 1" thick so it is a pretty substantial piece.

Lauren

Things are not progressing as fast as I would like Paul but the mechanic doing the work is German so he does everything in a careful, well thought out and professional manner - like someone else I know. ;)

Getting it done right is more important to me than speed.

Lauren

I've been looking all over to find someone that made a ripper for the L45. Where did you get that from and how much? Thanks. I dont know about you but i love my L45. Awesome machine.

Hi Natem

That is the official Kubota ripper for the L45. However, there is a posting on here from someone who has a Canadian L45 and a US made L39 -both with quick attach hoes - and it turns out that the Canadian and US quick attach hoe setups are not the same. My ripper is made by a Canadian company called H&H - I don't know who makes the US quick attach stuff. However I recall my dealer saying that the L45 hoe buckets and accessories are the same as for the KX121 excavator so you might want to check with your dealer.

I really like the L45. I started out with the B21 and upgraded to the B26 but really wanted the L45. I was a little concerned that the L45 would be too big but I have found it to be very manouverable and I really like the 10' hoe.

Regards,

Lauren
