Of course the GC can run a splitter :) If I had a wood stove instead of a pellet stove I would have a rear mount one for mine.

I've got the same setup, mine is my dedicated mower- and it stripes the lawn. You might find the Massey mows better than the legacy XL. The loader is definitely a beast. In winter the snowblower is adequate ballast. Moving dirt you'll want something. Here's a 600lb ballast I rigged up using 1/2 a 55 gallon plastic barrel, a Cat 1 ranchex drawbar (walmart.com), some rebar and (6) 80lb bags of quickrete. Whole thing cost about $50-60. I can pick it up and set it down with a quick hitch. Only thing I wish I did was sinknsome PVC into the cement so I could carry shovels/rake.

I'll give the Massey mower a try in the spring. The Legacy does a great job and it's always ready to go. I don't have to remove an FEL and add the deck. I have about 4 acres to mow. I suspect the Massey would use less fuel judging by the work I've done with it and how little diesel it's consumed versus the Legacy, which has proved to be a thirsty tractor. I like your ballast solution. What did you use for the collar at the top of the rebar?

Definitely try the mower! I used to do my lawn with a push-type 24" mower, with a 2-stroke engine due to all the sloped areas (splash-lubed 4-stroke engines tend to burn out doing steep slopes).

With the push mower, it took me 4-1/2 to 5-1/2 hrs and used about 3 gallons of pre-mix fuel (and one gallon of sweat!). I now do the whole lawn with my GC and its MMM in about 1-1/2 hrs. Not only does the GC/MMM do a better job -- more uniform, more clean-- it only uses about 2/3 of a gallon of diesel.... :cool2::thumbsup:

I can't get all my grass cut with a single tank on the Simplicity. It's 5.5 gallons and I always have to make a pit stop to finish. I'm confident the Massey will use less fuel.

I had a Simplicity Prestige, one step down from the Legacy. It was THIRSTY! I could mow only once on a tank of gas. Now I mow 3 times, plus, off road diesel costs less than gas. Win-win.
I can't get as close to things, and under trees as well, so I have to do more trimming.
I don't have to take the loader off, I prefer to, so I don't have to worry about hitting something with it. It also takes a load off the front tires.
