Walls. Lumber is coming today. I'm not particularly looking forward to it, it's going to be about a thousand degrees today and even hotter tomorrow.

We've got wood! Time to zip a hundred 2x8's down to 10'.

I got 10’ but they’re all about a half inch to long, so they need to be cut to exactly 10’.

It was so damned hot today. 90F and 70% humidity. I can count the number of times i drink water in a year on one hand, and today was one of them.

2x8 walls are HEAVY. We put up 12' sections at a time, lifted them over the bolts, and bolted them in place. Wanted to get the first wall section up and in place to see how hard the rest was going to be. Then built the rest, cut another 20 2x8's for the back wall, drilled the bottom plates and cut the top plates. Tomorrow EOD we should have both rear and side wall up and bolted down and starting on the front. The front and right side walls are going to be a bit more complicated as the right side has windows and the front has the garage doors so it'll be a bit more cutting. Nailing is a bit slow with my crappy pancake compressor. I own a bigger compressor but don't have a single outlet in or around the house that will power it since every outlet is 15a. I tried, it got to about 40psi then tripped the breaker.

Sometimes oversized wood can be a blessing and huge project cost savings. I recently bought several expensive veneer plywood sheets that I needed to cut down into a bunch of like sized pieces. The 1/2in oversize panels and a thin kerf blade allowed me to use all of the sheet with literally zero waste.

Drink plenty of water in this heat.

You will be skinflintjay when this is done.

Thanks for sharing.

When I poured my concrete, 500 bags through my harbor freight mixer, for my pool over the course of 2 weekends, I was exhausted. I went inside to get a drink after i'd finished. I came out and there were paw prints from the damned neighbors dog in the last pad I poured. I was furious. During this pour I had my rifle on the back porch ready to shoot anything stupid enough to run across the pad. I was really paranoid about it.

Then someone posted this on facebook today and I could absolutely relate.

Great progress!
Sometimes a pop-up canopy with a couple chairs and a cooler is a good place to have close to the work area. A 5 minute breather in the shade with some cool water is a good way to refresh your body and brain on these hot humid days.

If you cut the studs off at exactly 10', won't you end up with walls that are 10' 4.5" high?

2 blocks + 2" of 3rd block, 2 bottom plates, 10' studs, 2 top plates comes to 12' for the ceilings.

These walls are heavy. I calculated it to be about 300lbs. Which wasn't fun when we got one up, then it fell on me. I couldn't get back and I was against the wall, my buddy was on the non-wall side so he could get out the side. I managed to catch it to keep it from coming down on my feet but it rode down my arms and left them pretty sore.

Couple videos of walls going up right. I wish my wife would have caught the falling one, it happened so fast I'm not sure what went down. It was the left/rear and I was against the wall.

12ft sounds smart for drywalling efficiency assuming that is your plan.
