New BX24

Hi:

just my 2 cents look at volfandt dolly chain the stab arms together(not just bungey cord) and chain to side wall of garage or whatever to keep from tipping over as kid plays with it! much smaller storage space easier to re-install what not Northeran hyd has 3" steel wheel caster for $3 each for about 10 days. I to worried about kids tipping chain mine to backside of BB hoop but it is pretty stable on dolly,

I do hope you don't expect to bail 120 arces with a 24! 10-15 pushing never mind i see you thinking bigger to hay thank god!!!

I would presume that your manual tells you this for more of a stability / not putting your hoe down in the rocks or cement than for damage to the outriggers...I think your logic as to why to put the hoe up on a block is flawed, but that is just my persumption.
:p

Maybe... not worth arguing about. I'll keep putting it on the 6x6 not because the manual says so, but because I don't want to scrape any more powder coat off of it (even the bottom) than I have to. The buckets and the pads can get scraped & dented all to crap, but I'd at least like to keep the main unit looking nice if at all possible...that's just me.

Great discussion guys -

My BX24 manual advises to move the control levers to relieve pressure, so I did this with no ill effect. However, in trying to be complete, I also jiggled the stabilizer levers, which caused the whole unit to move (so I stopped real quick). If this is normal, then the manual is not clear - I can see people getting hurt doing this.
Yeah, I can't imagine why the manual would say to do this... just plain wrong, and not safe. Would only make sense if the valves stayed with the tractor... in which case you would have 14 QD's to undo! ;)

Ditto Renob,
I am 54 hrs into my BX24 and after scarring up my concrete floor in my garage taking off the BH, I put scrap wood under everything. To make things easier and faster, rather than lower the tractor end of the BH to the ground, I set it on a scrap wood (insuring the ground/floor is level and stable - I use an 8X8). It's easier to back into and saves the floor.

Altho it looks like a safety hazard, it's held it's own for nearly 3 yrs now and I've rolled the BH around all over the shop. Some have used a couple std moving dollies with great success also.
If you have a concrete floor, you should make that gangly space eating BH mobile, you'll be glad you did :D

I'm thinking of building this contraption.
One question: when removing the BH from the tractor, the user manual says to push the boom downwards into the floor to lift the back wheels off the ground a bit, in order to raise the tractor pins out of the BH hook thingy. Does this appy pressure to the dolly or is the boom beyond the dolly at that point (and curled up onto the dolly later on I guess)?

In my configuration, keep in mind I have a BX23, I use the stabilizers to raise the wheels up ever so slightly to unhook the the locks and use the boom to pivot the BH's lower mounting bracket out of the frames hooks.
I understand the BX24's BH mounts differently then the BX22/BX23 does and I'm not sure how it's done.
I do position the BH's bucket onto the dollie and apply up/down preesure onto the dollie just like it's done if the BH was being placed on the ground and I haven't had any problems.

The key is to get the lowest profile casters as possible.
The lower the better and the easier to mount/dismount.

There have been a few folks that use 2 std furniture dollies, one under the BH's main section and the other for the bucket and they've had great success with this setup also. The bucket/boom slides the dollie back & forth as needed and once the BH is fully dismounted the bucket dollie is drawn up to the main section dollie and together they make one large dollie and it's as easy to move around as a single dollie.

I've never dismounted my BH directly to the floor, with space at a premium in my shop, I knew I'd need all my implements to be mobile :D

Hehe, just refound my first post after searching for something else... Now up to 420 hours on the little beast. The BH and FEH come off/on pretty easy once you get the hang of it. The only PITA is I do this often, since I share duties mowing the lawn and doing other stuff like digging ditches or moving horse manure.

Speaking of ditches, once you get the hang of applying 2 BH functions at the same time you can rev the engine up to 2500rpm and really get some work done! Coupled with standing rather than sitting at the BH station, I can dig about 75 feet of 3-4' ditch in a day... I've got over 2000-ft of ditches dug so far...

My current project is building an outdoor sand ring riding arena, complete with drainage.

One tip when greasing - if you leave the grease gun on a wheel overnight you will run over it the next day... Don't ask me how I know.

Sounds like you and I have had a similar past three years. I got mine around the same time as you, and I have about the same number of hours. I still love it every single day.
