New Burning rules in our County...to conform to EPA rules

This requires a burning permit...so can you imagine every time you want to use your welding torch, portable heater even your gas grill...you have to call and get a burning permit...

Oh, I see... that would be a hassle. Not a big fan of pointless permits myself...

To you have a copy of the rules for your county?

Anything ive found online seems to agree with Arron on torches, BBQ and bonfires.

And all the rules ive seen allow burning of storm debris or debris from land clearing. Basically they dont want you burning tires or oils and making smog, and there's a wildfire control aspect as well.

Same basic rules apply here. Most of the burning season you need a permit ($5.95) and cant use tires or Accelerants (I still do). Plus the pile has to be less than 6' high.

The date of those rules Arron posted is 2006 ...Check this link out for what just came out...our county is now under more stringent EPA regulations...

In Ontario, the province has been paying townships $2/tire for each tire collected for recycling. It's amazing how many old tires have vanished off of piles in farm fields and from old barns, as a result...

It's nice to see a government implement a system that actually makes sense, sometimes!

I think you are reading it wrong. Those are items that are specifically allowed. The only banned fires are at the bottom of the page, and I think "vegetative debris" means green stuff, not woody debris.

Larry, I think you are right...the vegetative debris is what threw me along with prohibiting burning lumber in a burn barrel and I wonder if newspaper and old magazines are considered garbage...it was confusing to me...reading it again it does seem I was a little paranoid reading it the first time...I still don't like it though...:)

Can you find the place on a government site which says what is allowed and what is not? That "news story" looks like someone copied and pasted from the document I posted, but didnt state what is permissible and what is banned.

Our area still allows yard debri burn after Nov-15. EPA does pick the burn days though, based on air quality in the region. Permit is free, just have to call a number to see if it is an ok day for burning.

No garbage, or construction debri though. Glad for that; I burned garbage once, and had a neighbor do it a couple time. Nasty nasty nasty. Might be ok if you have 1000 acres, but on smaller acreage, all the neighbors had to endure it.

I for one hope that garbage will not be burned..I do burn Pine tree limbs about monthly.

Aaron, I looked for it...I tried to Google for more info and all I get is this article in the local paper...supposedly it is more strict than what you posted from 2006 and I agree with you...I am glad to hear you think it is confusing too...I am not sure what can be in a burn barrel...we have so much junk mail that it is impossible to shred it all and it has too much personal info on it to just throw away so we always burn it in the burn barrel when burning is allowed but if they now consider junk mail , garbage then we can't burn it anymore...can't shred all of it ..? It is confusing.
