I just got an update on the cast ball coupler.
Rating is 25,000Lbs
Tongue rating is 5,000lbs.

That's interesting, please post a picture of it when you get it, must be massive. The best I can find is the Gen-Y Hitch @ 32k/3.2k.

I have a 25k bulldog coupler I put on my dump trailer. Not at home to verify, but I remember it being 5k rated tongue weight.

I bought a 10k Appalachian trailer about 4yrs ago. Back then the wait time was about 5 weeks. They use Dexter axle assemblies and the curb weight of them is nearly the same as other brands so idk what makes them so economy. The tires are a consumable so is lights, wireing and the wood deck. Mine dosnt even have LED lights but really dosnt bother me. I could change them all out to LED for under $100, but I haven't had a single fail yet.
They are economy in the sense that I priced out a PJ and Diamond C and those trailers for 50 to 75% more.
The Diamond C's have a much higher quality paint job and more attention to detail.

That's good to know. Is it a channel mount or flat face? Some vendors and even some manufacturers are bad about listing all the specs, especially the vertical load. Also, some hitches don't offer the 3/4" mounting pattern, only 5/8"

I found a Bulldog 25k flat face but no hitch rating listed.

This is more of what I’m in the market for. A big tandem with a trailer towing set-up.
12 bales on the truck, 8 on the trailer. Thats 35,000lbs of hay in one delivery.
Right now, I am doing about 25,000lbs in one delivery.

According to my rough math, I will save almost 2 full weeks of time just on delivering hay, if I go to this set-up

That truck you showed is way too light duty. I can carry a lot more on my current 35’ GN

Just curious, why not a GN hitch for a trailer this heavy?
I already have a 38,500lb GN.
35’ long, dual 16K tandems with 17.5” wheel/tires.

I’m keeping this trailer. It’s paid off and in excellent conditions. Using it for hay and haul excavator, or the smaller farm tractors.

Flat face like that one, I don't think they make a channel version with that much capacity, the 2 bolts holding it would probably be the limiting factor.

I understand, nice truck. I just looked at your hay production, 1200 of those big suckers is a huge delivery job. Never mind what it takes to make them.

I currently average 15 bales per trip.
It takes me 80 deliveries to deliver all the mushroom hay.
Each delivery is about 4+ hours. 80 x 4 = 320 hours or 40 days.

With a tandem and a trailer, I can haul 20 bales per trip
It would take me 60 deliveries to deliver all the mushroom hay.
So thats 20 less deliveries.
20x4 hours is 80 hours saved, or (2) 40 hour work weeks.

2 weeks is a lot of time saved in my busy season.

This does not include deliveries of feed hay, which wouldn’t likely be done with a future big hay truck, but with the Ram 5500 and a trailer.

Not really-the deck height on those kind of tandems is probably a foot higher, BUT you could make a hitch with a 3” ball on the back of the frame of the truck. Not very common, though. Only have seen 1 or 2 guys pull a GN behind a tandem flatbed.
My future plan is to put bales on the tandem, then tow the Appalachian flatbed using a traditional bumper pull hitch.

The Sterling tandem is something I trying to get in the future. Until then, the 5500 will do all the hay hauling.

It's probably doable if you want to. I pulled my gooseneck using the 5th wheel on my Pete and an adapter. There was still a bit of adjustment left on the coupler.

I don't like the forces involved when using the adapter, so made a "receiver" for a B&W turnover ball. Now both the 5th wheel and gooseneck ball can be used as needed.
