New and yup, ANOTHER log splitter project

no question the wedge belongs on the end of the beam, this allows you to not handle the split chunks if you dont want to and four way wedges work way better on the beam.

You could have a reversible wedge/flat plate, and a wedge or flat plate for the ram. Now, you have a real convertible. If you are going to split vertical, install the flat plate to the ground side, and install the wedge to the ram. I should get a patent on that.

I have seen a log splitter that splits both ways, The wedge cutter looks like a double axe head and is attached to a cylinder that is on the bottom of the cutting table.

An update on the splitter:
It works like a champ, but I wish I had gotten a 4" cyl. (another project :p). Green oak and dry pine are no problem. However I bought a cord of dry Almond ($125 unsplit) and it's a bear for the poor thing. It'll do logs up to 10" fairly well but beyond that....good luck.
Now after 2 cords (I got about 1/4 of the Almond done) the control valve is leaking oil  I can re Oring the thing but it's the "economy" valve seen here: https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2009110416320633&item=9-7724&catname=hydraulic
so I'm not sure if I'll be chasing my tail putting O rings in it.

Any idea if the one from Tractor Supply is better?? I'm not sure if it's just cheap rings in this thing.
