New 5425

My dealer told me about 9 months ago that he heard that the new 5X30 Large frame was to have a front/3pt hitch PTO. The question is how much will it cost?

Found a place that makes front 3pt hitches and PTOs for the 5425 (and many others). I'm not ready to pull the trigger yet, but I am contemplating getting a front 3pt hitch. Bush hogging fields with bahia in it, the tires lay the grass down and the hog never gets a chance to cut it. With the mower on the front, that wouldn't be a problem. :D

Laforge Front 3-Point Systems

I wonder what that would cost. I have a remote for the front controlled by the thumb switch on the joystick.

The 5425 is approaching 100 hours. Almost time for its first oil change. To date the tractor has operated flawlessly. Well, almost flawlessly. I have had some issues with skid steer equipment fitting. Both the pallet forks and hay spear don't lock on the right side. My bucket fits fine.

I haven't worked out the exact reason for the failure to lock, but I think it can be solved with a little grinding here and there.

The tractor has performed with nary a hiccup since the dealer worked out the 3 pt hitch lift problem. I'm very happy with the 5425. Everytime I go out to work with the tractor, I get a grin on my face.

Actually, that is a bit of a lie. Swapping implements around is still a pain. Cat II stuff is heavy and doesn't move easily. Even when everything goes perfectly, it still takes a bit of sweat to attach implements. But then I get to ride in a nice, climate controlled cab, so things even out. :D

John Deere made a great tractor with the 5425! Can't wait to see the 6430 next year.

i'm glad to see someone else has a 100 service besides me! i kept reading on here about everyone doing a 50 hour service, but i kept reading my manual and all my 50 hour service said was to check a few bolts, check some fluids, do a little greasing but didn't say anything about changing anything. apparently i don't service my tractor until 100 hours either. i'm only at 11 hours though so i still have a good while yet.

i also agree that Cat II implements are a pain in the you know what to change! i think i see an i-match in my future. if i go that route though that means i will have to get a Frontier disk and the size i need is about $2,200:eek: i guess i'll have to just break down and get it because it's either pay it now, or make life alot harder hooking up implements in the future.

I broke 500 hours on my 5525 cab. Man, I love this tractor. 511 hours of yesterday - all good. Broke 30 hours on the 4520 cab. I guess I am getting some use out of them.

I am starting to consider an iMatch for my implements. I'll give myself a few years though. No way I can convince the wife I need iMatch when I'm powerlifting as a hobby. :D

The cab is the reason I went with JD over the others... always a pleasure to climb into the cab and go to work. Everything, aside from the armrest, are ergonomically correct.

Do you have the extendable links? Those are much better than an i-match. I got rid of both my imatchs. Also, the CAT i match is different so you would have to take it off to put a CaT 1 on there.

I do have the extendable links. They work pretty good. Getting implements off can sometimes be harder than getting them on... or getting the anti-sway bars lined up and even. That is usually my most difficult problem.

Congratulations D. And the beauty of it is the tractor is still dang near worth what you paid for it. It has only cost you the interest you would have made on the money if was sitting in an account. Maybe Joe Farmer can go out and buy a Shen-Jin-Long-Dong-Ying-Yang whatever for considerably less, but what is it going to be worth on the resale market? Why do most Chinese tractor mfgrs have "Dong" in their name anyway?

I'm up to about 55 hrs on my 5425 with 0 issues, other than the aforementioned armrests. I'll be awhile before I see 500 hrs though. I'll have to start driving it around more often, just for the halibut. Too bad the armrests don't slide out on rails like the centre one in my Passat TDI. Although, the folded-up buddy seat works sort of as an armrest too. The only thing I want to do is improve the cab speakers. I guess JD figured they are so crappy, why even bother with cutouts and speaker grilles in the headliner.;):D

I did have the AC switch fail. It was not very old.

Armrests could be better.

I figure I will put a couple hundred hours a years for quite a while.

Lining up those heavy implements can be tough.

I still get a big grin everytime I go out to work with the tractor. Finally ran the hydraulics for the third valve to the FEL. I need some adapters to get it to mate with Skid Steer stuff. I want to borrow a friend's Anbo Root Grapple to test things out. :D

We are in the middle of building a house. I used the FEL to dig the water line... yep, 400' of water line done with a FEL. That is a ditch about 2' deep and 8' wide. :D But, with a Reveal 4-N-1, you can close that ditch up and make it picture perfect in no time.

100 hour service has been done and we keep adding hours. Next big project is re-doing all of our fencing. Last time I ran fencing was 20+ years ago. I don't mind putting up new fencing, but taking down all the old stuff - not as much fun. I think when its all said and done, it'll be around 4 miles of wire run - about 1 mile of fencing times the 4 strands of wire.

Rather dreary weather out here today. Raining off and on all day, but I was dry and warm in my cab. I got my fields dragged when I would otherwise have waited for a sunnier day. :D I really do love this tractor!

There is a recall notice concerning a potential corrosion in the steering mechanism. I'll need to take care of that next month.

I'm truly enjoying my 5425!

the only reason i can come up with to convince myself why i should be happy i didnt buy a cab is that when the weather is dreary like it has been it gives me an excuse to stay inside and do no work:D if i had a cab, i couldnt use that excuse. one day when i win the lottery(i have to start playing first) i'm going to come pick you up and get you to ride with me and help me pick out a 5425 just like yours:)
