Let me tell you my story. I bought a used 955 that the salesman of the John Deere dealership took me to go and check out because he knew it was a good deal. I used it for a few years and during my busy time an internal pto drive shaft broke. The salesman loaned me a new 4600/4610. I don't remember which exact model but I do remember that they loaned me a tractor. About a week later there was a dealer audit by John Deere head quarters and they wanted to know where this tractor was. Well the manure hit the fan and the dealer came and got the tractor and cleaned it all up. I was told that I should be billed for the clean up and the hours of use etc. etc. Several month's later and still no bill so I asked the salesman about it. He said just keep your mouth shut and so I did.

This all sounds a bit unbelievable I know, but it's actually what happened. The only thing I need to add is that the salesman was my brother. When the time came to trade in my 955 for a 4410 I didn't haggle about the price or anything. I figured they had covered my back above and beyond with that loaner.

I'm not sure about current situations, but probably then JD owned the tractor until the dealer sold it???

So if it got enough hrs on the tach it would have to be sold as "used" or as a "demo" at a reduced price.

This was so long ago I don't remember everything exactly but I would assume that what you are saying is correct. Seems to me there was about 120 hours on the tractor. They weren't all put on by me as I didn't have it that long. All I know is that I wasn't about to ask any questions about it. I got a real good deal from the dealer and asking questions would have just stirred things up that were better left alone at the time.

Yep, I wouldn't have either!!! :)

Got to try out the tractor this weekend. It seems like they fixed it but I haven't heard a word from JD.

I think they should give me some trade allowance or my money back. I've had two of their tractors catastrophically fail in about a year. I really don't want to make payments on a new tractor that has had the entire front end replaced. The price we have to pay for these things I should expect some help. They sure didn't call me and tell me not to worry about my payment the month they had it.

Deere corporate will deal through your Dealer, not direct with the customer..

The onus is on your Dealer.. and if he/she is interested or feels a need, will work it out with Deere Corp through the regional rep. Put the squeeze on your Dealer, others won't be too interested in your problem. IMO, and I could be wrong.

Just the way the line of authority and communication works. Similar to being employed and having to go through your boss, and not your boss's boss.

Just heard from the dealer and JD is going to give me an extra year of warranty. I wanted them to either give my money back or some money on trade. Am I being unreasonable? I just don't like the idea of making payments on a tractor that's had the whole front end replaced.

Should be good as new.. or do you think they may have used old parts? I doubt that...

I put no value on Warranty. If I buy a good product Warranty will never be needed. Obviously in this case it has already been needed. So to extend it a year is fluff. What happens after that year has expired?? Is the product better because they extended the warranty a year?? :(

I would tend to think that a front end that has been carefully put together at a dealer is better than one that comes off the assembly line. That's just my thoughts. I for sure wouldn't feel that my tractor is worth less just because the original front end was flawed. If you don't feel the same then I guess you are free to trade it off at some point.

I wouldn't be afraid to keep it. I'm sure it was just a bad part. Now if a bunch of stuff starts going wrong then I would be concerned.

I would not be afraid to keep it also...

I would make them wave payment for one month...

Get extra warranty claim documentation also...

My dealer changed hands once more and locations now.....Troublesome dealer issues within the ownership itself after the last buy-out lead to the move.

I use a completely different dealer now 70 miles away with excellent service.:D

Deere products are good, some of there so called dealers are to big for there britches and just want to own as many stores as possible and just sell merchandise.... service is not as important to them.

Waive one payment just means he pays more interest. Thats exactly what JD wants!

John Deere mandated that. They ran off all the small independent dealers. Sometimes it's a gain for the consumer, some times not.

Not ran off but bought out, Happened here with "larger" company buying smaller and now the dealer is gone to a completely different town, service stunk with new bigger company anyhow. Only sense it made is the company wanted to sell more compact tractors and items in the different town that has less ag/construction base other than supply the large farming/ construction eqiupment based town it started in.

For a year extension on the warranty, I would be happy. If that front end is going to be chronic, you will know by then. I bet its not an issue.

Update: After using the tractor for a while I noticed the front was a little loose and couple of other issues I had them look at when it was in the shop getting the front end replaced where not fixed. The brakes sound awful and I have to practically stand on them to stop the tractor. The loader is real slow and even hesitates when dumping the bucket and the stabilizers won't hold their position for more than a minute. I informed the manager about the issues and he said that they where going to be in my area the next day and they would pick it up. I thought that was above what was expected so naturally I said good. The tractor has been there for two weeks and I've not heard anything form them. In the meantime I call JD again and was told by the rep that she saw where I called on the first tractor and that it was not forwarded for any action. She told me that was common practice. I said you mean to tell me that JD has one of their tractor fail in the first month and they don't feel the need to contact them. So I told her the story from the second tractor 3039 and she assured me she would forward it to a manager. A few days later a manager called and I told him my story and he said he could not help me with getting my money back or getting some trade allowances that his job was to make sure the tractor got fixed but that he would definitely tell the regional rep my story and he would be in contact with me. So my tractor is not fixed and I have not heard from John Deere. I bought JD because I never thought I would have to deal with this kind of crap. I couldn't of been more wrong.
