Buying Advice Never owned a tractor

Im experienced with turning wrenches just not on tractors. I really enjoy doing preventative maintenance and repairs. Im just trying to find something that has a slow first gear for tilling and hopefully something with decent access to parts so that I can repair if ever the need arises.

Anybody with an A&P in their pocket should be able to handle all but the most complex work on a tractor, and then it would likely be stuff like HST tranny issues, or computer/electronic stuff that you won't run into on the older iron.

One of my favorite Deere models, the newer 830 (two models of the same name) would be another to look for....1.4mph in 1st is max, so it'll go slower for tilling, and parts shouldn't be an issue.

In fact, keep in mind that most often, the speed listed for a particular gear is at full throttle, not PTO speed...usually several hundred RPM slower. I think my Massey maxes at 2,300rpm, but PTO speed is only 1,750rpm or so.
