Tractor
a twaktur
Hello,

I am a Newbie and have just joined and posted for the first time as of today. During the summer I rescued a Farmall 806 Diesel row crow tractor. This machine has a damaged block from a broken valve tappet failure, which chipped the block. It looks as though a block repair may be cost prohibitive to have repaired.

Texas has an emissions law that has caused the death of many good engine blocks. There have been certain tractors that had good engines and could've easily been used as donors, but now there are large gaping holes in the engine blocks.

Anyhow, I am in need of a good used D361 block with casting number ending in C1, C2, C3, etc. These are the later model design blocks. Mine has the single oil dipstick/filler tube. The earlier blocks had separate dipstick and oil fill tubes. Recently, I found a complete running and tested engine in South Dakota, but since I can't use my block as a trade-in core, the price with shipping is more than I can currently afford.

Does anyone know of a good, used, late series D361 block or complete engine in Texas? I would sure like to get this old girl going again.

I have a 706 gas, and have found parts at a place in Clinton, Mo called Cooks Tractor. Pretty sizable operation with a 40 acre boneyard, and big building. They have a website - google it.

Not sure your location. Blasted iPhone app doesn't share that info. Hope this helps.

Thanks I will check them out. It is painful seeing this old girl(Farmall) just sitting there. It was a labor of love to rescue her. I was the only one who had spotted her in a hay field and cared enough to call and track down the owner. She was disassembled by a dishonest mechanic who took the money from an elderly farmer and ran. The mechanic never completed what was attempted and also kept many of the parts and left the others just laying in the dirt. The former owner was 82 years old and wasn't able to lift the heavy parts himself. I labored in very hot weather to get everything loaded up and hauled to a new home. I think it was around 105 that day. Glad I didn't wait any longer, because we had temps as hot as 113F. :(

I got mine from my father-in-law. It had sat outside for 10+ years after an electrical short burned up the wiring harness. The motor was seized, but I thought I could free it up since it had been running prior to the fire.

He had offered it to several people - they all passed. He thought I was a fool, but I loaded up and brought it home.

I did a partial restore, got it running. Used it for several years. The motor was a tad weak, and now it needs an overhaul. So, that's my next major project, and this time I think it will be a pretty comprehensive restore project.

They are good solid machines. FIL has an 806 gas and a cabbed 1056 diesel that I will end up with. The old IH Farmall's are stout tractors. Fuel guzzlers, but good machines.

Good luck with your project, and welcome to TBN.
