Need help for seat time!

Hey Gurus,

I have a 110 tlb without a suspension seat that is killing my back. After a few hours in the woods, or a short stint with the chains, I can barely walk the next day. To be fair, my disks are degenerating, but I think a real cushy seat would allow me some comfort.

Any suggestions for a seat which can flip like the OEM? Do the new ones have a better suspension, and will it fit?

Any expertise would be great.

I haven't heard of anything for a 110 and with the flip over seat this might prove a challenge to design. With some custom work you may be able to use an airride suspension in the forward facing position and still have the fixed seat in the backhoe position.

There is a considerable difference between the air suspension seat on my 5075M and my 110 - no doubt about it!

I'd look into the possibility of adapting a series 4000 air suspension seat for the 110. As Steve mentioned - that might work for the forward facing use of the TLB - loader, etc. Regarding the backhoe; a backhoe seat from either the JD 7-8 backhoe series or possibly the 375-485 backhoe series might work.

If effect, you'd have 2 permanent seats mounted back to back. That configuration would require you to dismount the tractor and climb up onto the backhoe to run the hoe.

Talk with your local dealership folk's. Especially, the more experienced shop people and the lead part's guy!

What I was thinking (have to be cautious with that) was to use an air suspension mounting with the existing foldover seat on top of it. You would need to do some custom fabrication to make it work. I would think you only need the suspension system when seated forward, the hoe position wouldn't need it.

I think (again with caution), you are right. It looks like four bolts hold on the existing assembly. Can one get a suspension system about 2.5 inches thick and bolt it in?

Why onlly two and a half inches? The existing seat suspension must be about five inches tall.

I would remove the seat and tilt mounting it is attached to, Then remove the existing suspension and see if you can measure an airseat suspension from a 3x20 or 4x20 tractor. I say this because you can get the 4x20 tractors with either spring suspension or optional airride suspension. I have the spring suspension on my 4520 and it is about the same height as the 110 seat suspension. I would assume from this that the air ride suspension platform is close the same height in order to be interchangable.

The trick to all of this is to preverve the correct height and seat position to be able to lock the seat in the rear position while operating the hoe. I think it is doable, you can buy the air ride seat platform for about $600 from Deere.
I would verify the fit first, might have to do some customizing.

I think that the air seat is compatible with the mount for the 110. And, with some modification (locking feature on the flipable 110 seat), you should be able to flip it over and lock it in place.

But, the back of the air ride seat is quite a bit different than the back of the 110 seat. If you look closely at the 110 seat - the front is the back and the back is the front...

They're the same. That's why you can sit on both ends of the seat.

I don't think that the air ride seat is built that way. And the armrests could be a problem as well.

I found this KAD Seat Adjustable Suspension for tractors or equipment (Seat not included) | eBay. I have not had a chance to check the fit. Since you guys have been looking, what's your take?

The reason I thought 2.5 inches is because it looked like I could just remount the seat platform on the suspension and keep the 110 seat and flip feature. 2.5 would be the max before my knees hit the steering wheel.

The KAD suspension on Ebay is not an air ride suspension platform. Most probable this was removed and replaced by an air ride platform.

My suggestion is to change out your platform (very similar to the one on Ebay) with the airride platform reusing your existing flip over seat.

I should ask this first, have you tried adjusting your seat suspension to see if this helps? The knob on the front of the seat down low adjusts the firmness for weight of operator.

You know, I have not messed with that knob since I bought the thing. I was looking at that seat assembly and it looks fairly complicated in the way that it flips up. The engineers weren't thinking of adding air. I'll check the knob. You are probably right that that e-bay seat was replaced with air..good call.

When you break down the change over it isn't real complicated, you need to preserve the proper seat height with operator off the seat and you need to preserve the rear most seat position in order to engage the rear position seat lock.

When swapping out the seat platforms from spring to air ride if the new platform is too low then you can shim it with washers to raise it up. If the new platform is too high but within an inch you could push down on it to get it to latch in the rear position.

Setting the seat up to latch properly in the rearward position is easy to do, flip the seat to the rearward position and latch it in place. Make sure the platform is in the rear most position, then mark the seat mounting to attach to the platform.

Just a guess but I would think the seat platforms are very close in height and should be easy to swap out. If you have a lot of back problems this might be a real help for you. Well worth the money imo. A little measuring and research on your part and you should be able to get a good idea what will work.

I figured out why I never fuss with my seat adjustment. I don't have one. Given that my 110 is almost ten years old, I think there has been an upgrade. Yall think a newer seat would help?
