I am looking into putting a skid steer onto my tractor. I was going to get a root rake attachment, but the price has scared me. If I want to remove palmettos, etc... Can a toothbar do the job? What are the pros and cons of the right equipment (root rake) vs the toothbar?

Using a Kubota LA853 on L4330.

Thanks,

Joe

I don't think you'll get satisfying results using a toothbar for this purpose. To break up hard packed ground the toothbar is excellent and if you can just break up the ground and remove the palmettos, fine, but it's not that easy. The price of a toothbar is around $335, and I have found root rakes for $200-$350, so I don't know why you would be scared of one over the other. I'd go for the rake which can be used for rocks, roots etc. The toothbar for breaking hard ground and helping with loader digging. John

Thanks for the reply John. The root rakes I have found were root rake grapple type with hydraulics, and cost $1800 to $2200. Where did you find a regular root rake? Did you use the skid steer type, or regular bolt on?

Thanks for your help.
