Where is a good place to get a replacement battery that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? TSC has Exide batteries...any reviews?

Consumer Reports gave Costco batteries (Kirkland) good reviews.

I buy em at my local Napa not the Cheapest but I've had good luck with them

I just replaced my Deere 4400'sbattery with one from Interstate...about $82.00.
Main thing I needed was one the fit the existing clamp down locations. It's just a standard automotive battery and I hope it holds up as well as the replaced battery (which was 7 years old).

Check the manual for "size"- cranking power, amps/hour, whatever. Too "small" and it can cause starter problems. My JD 850 calls for '475 amps cold cranking'.

I have had good luck with the EverStart batteries from Walmart, however, couldn't find one to fit my 2520.

So, I went with an Exide from TSC, which has the correct hold-down points and the price was right (in the $90 range). I have had it in there for a couple of years, and had no problems.

If my manual calls for 550CCA will it hurt to move up to one that's in the 750 to 950 CCA range?

I needed one right away. My JD dealer sold me a DEKA battery. $90 and have heard nothing but good about them.

It's not the best thing to do, here's why.

Your battery and charging system work in tandem. The starter is set up to work with your battery and you don't want to push more amps into it than it's rated for. Also the charging system will not work as well with a battery that's not deigned for its limitations.

I would go with interstates they work pretty good. Their known for good quality batteries. I have one on my 5200 for 8 years barely charge it once every 2 years or so..

I just fell victim to the John Deere battery curse tonight. My 2320 was 1/8th of a mile from home. Tried using a jumper pack, jumper cables and neither one would get enough power to it. Ended up taking a battery out of a car and putting on it just to get it home. I did what I had to, just to get it back home. I plan on getting an Interstate battery for it. I have decent luck with them.

Many good replacement batteries will be 150%+ strong than factory OEM battery. For 40 years I have upped the CCA by up to 200%.

It does not take any more charging from the alternator to keep up a 1000 CCA battery than a 500 CCA battery and perhaps less. Our diesel tractors start in 1 second most of the time.

I usually put the biggest baddest one that will fit and mount down properly. That is usually better for the starter anyway.

Picked up an Interstate from NAPA...starting like a champ. Thanks for the feedback!
