RobJ, if you want to get rid of your old one, shoot me a PM.

I'm going up on Monday to install. After that it's all yours if you want. It's all there...except for some screws that stripped out, and uhhh me learning how to remove the rectifier. :(. I'd never seen that before, the wires sticking up and bent over and pinched with a screw.

The charger on my yanne dies and i found a nice small hitachi car alt for a 70's or so vehicle... he to make up some bracketry.. but there are plenty of small alternators out there to make things work for ya. Think I used a 10$ chrysler vreg with it.... worked fine.
Me too.

I read in some old posts here that Yanmar's models that were first introduced in the 70's used the same series Hitach alternator and regulator spec'ed for 70-73 Datsun (now Nissan). At AutoZone that was $29 for the rebuilt alternator and $18 for the regulator. Both fit the existing mounts, and everything plugged together perfectly. I now have 35 amp service in place of the original 15, and bone-stock appearance. Love my Yanmar, everything is simple and intuitive.

Well the alternator works just fine. I did have to change out the pulley, just a bit smaller than my old one...good eye there Barry!! Through some testing the key does have to be on for it to entergize it. When it went out I had the habbit of turning off the key (L2500 is a gear tractor, pull rod to kill motor). I had about 3.5 hours of seat time yesterday and all is well. Could hear it pull on the motor a bit at first. Since the idiot light does work, I'll probably not put the gauge back on.

And some pics of course!!

Milkman, shooting you some pics later.

I have a very good electrical rebuild shop near me. He rebuilds all the electrical stuff that i have go bad. I took a starter off of an 8n ford to him because I had broken the brushholder springs and could not find others. He got the whole plate and fixed the starter for less than I paid for the brushes I had bought. The last thing I took to him was my sons bmw alternator. The pulley had worked loose and wore the shaft down on the armature. The alternator through bmw was 600.00 He told me the armature was going to be 150 but he could get me a new bosch alternator for 185.00 I had him get me the new one and I could not tell any difference from the OEM one. Same number same mounting brackets etc. He has always been able to repair everything of that nature I have given him and do it at a considerable savings. On more ordinary parts such as a chevrolet starter or something of that nature he is about the same price as I pay autozone for a lifetime warranty one. The difference is that I wind up taking the autozone lifetime warranty one back every two years or so if I am lucky. If not lucky two or three times a year. The ones I have him rebuild for me he does one time warranties it for a year and they last decades.

I wish mine had been rebuildable. I do not know if it was just the shop I took it to or if it truly isn't. It is also a Daewoo so, not as common as Bosch or Delco. The guy mentioned a specific issue and told me his parts house claimed that part was N/A. It is still on a shelf and if I ever have another problem, I'll try a different rebuilder. It would be interesting to know if another will-fit unit has the wire for the tach and is less costly.

It is interesting to find out what other makes/models of cars use the
same brand of alternators, and can be bolted right in to a tractor. The
car version is usually a higher amperage unit.

I replaced a bad JD Nippondenso alt with one from a Suzuki Sprint....the
only thing I needed to do was swap pulleys (V-belt for multi-rib).

I recently found out that the alt in my 98 BMW M3 is a Valeo unit, same
brand as used in my Kioti CK30.

I generally prefer alts off wrecks to rebuilt units as rebuilt starters and
alternators have given me trouble in the past.
