My alternator hasn't worked for a while and I wasn't going to pay $500+ for a new one. I was poking around the web and found an Ebay seller that sold them. Didn't have my exact part number but crossed it over. I received it the other day (about 3-4 days for shipping) and it looks good. Looks brand new, sticker has been removed. I haven't tried it yet but I don't see any real fault. The wiring locations are a little different but no problem for me...the plug is exactly the same. Mine was a 30a and I think this is a 40a. It was for a B or BX. $129 plus shipping. Check them out. He responded to my emails quickly and guaranteed it would work for me.

Looks aren't everything but you might want to take it to a parts store and have it checked before installation. Boy, do they ever see you coming with things like that. Five hundred bucks. I would plumb a salvage yard alternator on before I would pay that. Especially since I am to broke to pay attention. :D I hope it works for you.

Yep, tried that, I have several old Bosch alternators that were takeoffs when I was a mechanic, just to big to fit and stay under the cover with the willfit brackets.

actually $576!!! I think the P/N for the one I got is $286.

My 42 years old Bolens garden tractor has a better charging system than any of my Kubotas.

Sounds good, hope it works well. I noticed he didn't list Mahindra. The alternator for my '03 2810 was $500 too. :(
I might have been able to do a will-fit install but, I wanted it to be as new. $500 later, it is.

$500 sounds about right. Alternators, starters and hydraulic pumps are all in the $500 range for most Japanese compact tractors and now maybe even Korean compacts. The Japanese must think that $500 is a good number. To bad that don't like $200 or even $300.

Holy smokes, these things can't be rebuilt?
I brought mine to a shop that said no, due to parts availability. I did keep it and one of these days, I'll try a bigger shop.

Looks like the only major difference is what i have been told is the "clocking" the relationship of the connectors to the mounting brackets. usually you can take out the 4 bolts and turn it to line up like the old one.

Yea, theres a lot of grab your chest and die prices on these tractors. I sat at the computer one day and priced out all the components and found everything, (after years in the automotive repair business), to be at a minimum twice what I expected. right down to the radiator hoses. Check out the price on the little starter and the little baby water pump and radiator. Then check out the power steering control valve. Make sure your sitting down, and pray you don't need to buy one someday.

The differences between your two alternators is a common sight. One manufacturer will make several versions of the same alternator. I don't know why. Whether it's Delco, Mitsubishi, Nippon-Denso, Paris-Rhone, etc. They all do this.
Whenever I try and retrofit a different alternator I usually try and make a Delco fit first. Then move onto the other brands. Reason being that usually I can get Delco repair parts from the auto parts store faster than the other brands.

The charger on my yanne dies and i found a nice small hitachi car alt for a 70's or so vehicle... he to make up some bracketry.. but there are plenty of small alternators out there to make things work for ya. Think I used a 10$ chrysler vreg with it.... worked fine..

The only ones I worry about are the ones where they 'stick' you by putting the tach pickup.. or tach drive on the genny/alt.. then they have ya by the short hairs....

Might just be the photo (or my eyes) but those two pulleys look different sizes in both diameter and groove size. But good price if it works.

Nope... good eye!! The diameter of the puley is actually about 1/2" smaller on the new one. Not a real problem there but I could switch out the pulley if needed. The V groove I think is the same, I don't recall any difference off the top of my head. But again not a major issue.

Perhaps not if the shop is just an ordinary auto repair or auto mechanic shop.
We have a place here that is a special re-builder of starters and alternators.
If anyone could rebuild it; it would be them.

According to my parts manual and tractorsmart.com, you can order parts for these. But the rectifier assembly is $131, regulator assembly is $220, rotor $164, stator and front frame $378.96....why bother unless locals have some old used will fit parts.

If it was just the pulley that went bad, that's ok at $15! :D

I replaced alternators on a ford 871 (early 4000) and Jinma JM 354 Total cost $90 'cause one took a wider pulley. They were both wreckin' yard Delco SI-10's. If it weren't for wrecking yards; scrap iron recyclers; aftermarket will fit parts; findin' good deals in the Nickel Saver and friends giving me stuff I'd be walking and living under a tarp under a underpass somewhere. Now if I could just get the 'lectric company to take barter it'd be a good life. Oh yeah almost forgot about paying them property taxes, they want cash. bjr

The shop I took mine to was an rebuilder of automotive electrical components but, it was a small local place. There is a larger shop 20 miles away that has been around for quite awhile. I may take it there someday, though I hope not to need another.

With these modern tractor alternators (ND, Hitachi, Motorola, etc),
the usual failure is rectifier, regulator, or brushes. Each is available from
rebuilder supply houses for maybe $35 or less each. Very easy
repair. Stator or rotor failure and it does not make financial sense to rebuild.

I have bought from Transpo before: Transpo Electronics INC - Electronic Catalog
