Im looking for info for the title tractor. Ive poked around
online but couldnt find the following:
1) width at the back wheels (r1s are fine)...I assume this is
the widest point. Was it an option to get other than r1s?
3) Is power shuttle only available w/ the 12x12 transmission?
4) Of the 2 transmissions which would be best for all around farm use
12x4 or 12x12? I was thinking about using it as an all around utility
tractor to haul wagons (loaded w/ hay), mow (brush not hay), rake, ted,
load, till (w/ a tiller not a plow).
5) The power shuttle allows you to reverse w/o clutching and before
coming to a complete stop? How is the power shuttle
implemented...eletrically etc?
6) How common are parts? Easy or hard to get?
7) Are there any 'signature' weaknesses w/ the tractor in general?
8) Is the Ford loader frame mounted? Is it quick detach?
9) Whats the lift capacity at the bucket of the Ford loader?
10) Are rear remotes a possibility?

For anyone who owns this tractor what are you using it for? Whats your over all opinion of it? Anything you dont like about it?

I've had a 2120 since 1987 with the 12x12 HSS. The transmission is a hydraulic power shuttle. this is definately the best transmission on these models for any use. The 2120 is one of the best tractors that Ford / New Holland made. They are very reliable. It ws available with turf tires also and can be had with industrial tires. The new TC48 and TC55 are basically this same tractor with very few changes except new sheet metal and more hp. Parts are easy to get. No signature weaknesses. The loader is quick attach to a frame mounted subassembly. The lift capacity is about 2000#. I have rear remotes on mine. The power shuttle is a mechanical lever operating a hydraulic clutch pack--no electronics.

I use mine for everything you describe and more. I had a backhoe on it for many years.
Try one you 'll love it. It's quite a step up from the TC45.

Oh, one more thing that you didnt answer: If you dont mind could you give me a width at the rear wheels? If I trade up for a 2120 Id like to know beforehand which attachments will be too narrow.

I don't have my manual here and the tractor is at a job site. I a 60" Bush Hog and the rest of my implements, York Rake and Box Blade are 8'. You might get away with 7' but 6' would be too weak and small. The 2120 is a pretty powerful tractor. It has no problem pulling 8' implements.

For your future refrence the later 2120's had a computer control module for the trans. I think this started around 1997-98 They have been a weak point!

I seem to remember a thread about a year ago concerning the lift arms on the 3PH bending.

You mean "sheet plastic", right? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I agree with everyone else - the 2120 is a very rugged tractor. It is extremely solid and had a great reputation. The HSS is a pretty cool way of going back and forth. I've sat in the seats of the TC48 and 55 (not driven them, though.) They are a lot more "Boomer"-like, with all the more modern additions like sloping hood, tucked exhaust, etc.

Andy,
Thanx...I was hoping that I might use my 5' attachments...guess not. BTW have you ever tryed to run a small sq bailer w/ you 2120? It looks like it has enough HP and weight to do the job.

Rick,
Thanx for the heads up on the computer module!! What exactly is the problem? Are they a consumable or do they just not work well w/ the transmission design? Do you have any idea why they were added?

So Jim, it sounds like you are getting rid of the TC?

The early ones where a problem. Any that we have replaced have been fine since they where replaced with an upgraded module.

See the attachment for the 2120 Spec's....

A little fuzzy...let me know if you can't make it out.

Comes from my personal Library. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif 1996 New Holland - 16 to 47 hp Compact Diesel Tractor Sales booklet. What year is this 2120 your looking at?

I seem to recall reading that too. Certainly not the case on my 17 year old 2120. The 3 point arms are very strong and have been worked very hard with 8' 600 to 1200# attachments with absolutely no hint of any bending. If anything I would say they are quite overbuilt.

Every body I know who has one loves it and just keeps it. My dealer used to have about 25 lease return 2120's available each year. I almost bought a leqse return a couple of years ago for $19,000 with a brand new loader.
