Its not just the little compacts.
My 70 hp cab tractor gets light in the rear end with a full bucket of gravel.
One solution is a balist.
I use a 1000 lb bush hog since I did not want filled tires.

Gulp! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif First few times are the worst. Its during these initial times that you lose your sanity. Think of it as a new extreme sport (disclaimer - this is not serious, don't do this at home!). A new enhanced version of what we did as kids on motor bikes. How did we ever survive those days. Think I've been getting too used to the 2 and 3 wheel stuff. Two weekends ago must have been on 2 or 3 wheels a few dozen times. Had the box on the back but that clay is just too doggone heavy. Moved around 80 cubic yards of the stuff over 3 days. Still have another 250 to go. Been looking at buying rear wheel weights but will probably just rent a wheel loader (with a 2.5 cubic yard bucket /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif) and do the job the right way. That piddlin' .75 cubic yard bucket on our tractor just isn't fast enough for the CFO's taste.

Loaded tires certainly help on my JD4700 and the loader will stall when the static lifting exceeds its capacity without raising the rear when no other impliment is on the 3PH. However, motion, load height, ground level condition and terrain dictate caution, slow and well thought out movements with addition the of weight on the 3PH. Repetitive operations call lull you into a false sense of security so be careful. These accidents typically happen faster than you can correct for them.

Even with the rear tires loaded and the backhoe on the back of my Long 360, I can still raise the backend off the ground if I am not careful. The only time I can stall my loader is at very low idle.

I call mine 'the treasurer'. I remember when i bought my tractor, I was at the dealership, hammering out some numbers with the salesman... I finally got the ones I wanted to see, and said that I needed to go check with the treasurer.. he said 'yep.. i"m married too'....

Yep. But I gotta keep the rental to a minimum as a large part of the justification for purchasing the tractor was the savings we would have by doing it ourselves. I'm trying to cautiously remind her that it will get done without renting equipment and that the rental is only to meet her timetable. Just for the record -- when my tippy incident occurred, I had a 5-foot box blade w/rippers on the 3-pt, and my rear tires are loaded. What was missing was my hefty self in the seat.

I think the main problem for me was the fact that I was ignorantly lifting from one corner of the bucket instead of the middle. Rear ballast doesn't help as much when you're trying to tip it over on its side. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

maybe you need some type of heavy outriggers, perhaps retractable so that you can still fit through the narrow places. Perhaps MChalkey can get a thread started on "hydraulic weighted outriggers for lateral stabalization during extreme duty off-center lifting operations" /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Believe me, Ron, that thought crossed my mind there for a while, but I've since taken the approach of simply engaging my brain before the hydraulics.

They already make those retractable outriggers. They call them backhoe stabilizers./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
