Here is a side view of the same weld. I hope that I am not boring or bothering you guys with all these pics and posts. I know I love to look at all the pics on TBN so I hope I am not overdoing it here.

I cleaned up the weld with some Scotch-Brite so you could get a better look at it. Does this look strong enough or am I going to have to take this to a professional?

Spence the weld is beautiful.

What I use to judge whether a weld is enough of a weld is how it's being worked. A lot of times I temporary weld stuff so that it's strong enough for the job but when I'm done I can break it's back easy enough to undo the job.

What I mean is the weld is generally working in one direction. A push from the opposite direction will break it's back. It's sorta like trying to bend piece of quarter by two bar stock. You can the easy way. But you can't the hard way.

Look at your weld the same way.

Show us a bigger picture with the whole plate so we can see how your weld is working against what.

Spencer,
Glad the quick-attach bobcat plate worked for you. Like Mark V said, I would also consider putting the expanded metal mesh toward the back of the lift. You will need the open space in front for working on your project. On my simple lift, I use a single 1" square tube held in place by two simple pins which can be quickly and easily removed. The mesh in front will significantly reduce your work ability. Even my 1" square tubing is often in the way and left off. Also consider making a small ledge in the back of the lift to store small items so you don't have to leave them on the floor and in the way of walking. IMHO items on the floor are more of a hazard than not having a front on the lift.

Harv,
Thanks for the input on the weld. I thought it was good enough but I sure do like hearing it from someone with more experience. Here is a pic of the quick-tach plate welded onto the 8" by 1/4" plate that is welded to the 2" square tubing.

Radman,
You can see in the picture in my reply to Wroughtn_Harv that I did turn the whole lift around and now the mesh is on the back side where the quick-tach plate is. I am not sure just yet if I will put mesh on the door and on the 30" side but I will leave it off the new front side. I do have some 1" tubing that I plan on using for the door so I can use that for some bracing on the front side if I want to. I like your idea of having the bracing removable, I will think about that. I have always planned on having a tool shelf in the back. I have been thinking 6" wide and 6" deep, what do you think?

Harv,
Here is a side view that may help you determine what kind of stress I am putting on the welds. I think it will be fine unless I decide to try and dig stumps out with it.

You do understand spence they'll lock you away if they find out you're having this much fun. Nothing upsets them more than someone actually having fun.
