Lynkage, you can see it is very easy to not know what you weigh till you actually weigh it.
I know when I get gravel for my drive I "try" to get @5 yards per load on average but usually is anywhere from 7.5 tons to 9 tons on a 6400lb dump trailer. My truck doesn't care but the trailer does.

Keep a close eye on your tires, they get hammered on dump trailers...because of the unknown loads... especially if your on gravel roads.

Thank you for the heads up!!

Yes it can happen very easy! Next time I will keep an eye out. My dump trailer tires are @70#. This is recommended.:)

Well.... i took her on her maiden voyage. A former neighbor of the non-woodburning type gave me a load of free wood. Mostly silver maple with a little ash mixed in. I feel i had the truck and trailer just about as loaded as i ever will. I had to leave a little wood behind, but next time i'm by i can pick it up with just the truck.... less than a pickup load. It is great to be able to move so much in one shot... especially since the wood was almost forty miles from the house. Doing some rough math... i would estimate i had a 4700lb payload in the trailer, and roughly a ton in the truck. I need to get it weighed when full to get an idea how close, or far off my guesstimate is. Has anyone here ever weighed a load of hardwood in their 6X10 trailer?

Moisture content will change the weight way too much to take a guess at it.

One for the "For What Its Worth" column:

Went to pick up a free load of oak today.... found on Craigslist. Loaded the trailer till i thought she'd be a good thousand pounds over. Stopped at a nearby truckstop to have it weighed. Got a pleasant surprise.... 6,880 on a 7,000lb trailer ! Dang i'm good !!! I was slightly surprised to see my reg. cab 4 x4 SRW F350 weighed in at 7,720. I know that includes my chainsaws, some misc. tools, a lil tongue weight, etc. ..... and my dog. Dunno why, but i would have guessed she weighed closer to 6.
