Thanks!

I was wondering if those wireless access points were as good as they claim to be. Nice to know it works well.

I've been busy dealing with and overcoming networking issues for work where we have no pathway available. This is the solution I ended up going with: Ubiquiti Networks - NanoBridge The model we are using is good for up to 10KM as a wireless bridge. Not bad for around $120 each. For half that price ($67ish) the NanoStation M (Ubiquiti Networks - NanoStation) is still good out to around 3KM. I have to admit that their wireless products have impressed me pretty well.

For the home network, I've spent the last year upgrading it to an enterprise level architechture. Now that the network is working the way I want, it's back to work on the barn.

Finally time to steal your door design for the exterior sliding doors. I noted that you used screws to attach the base 2x4 sections together on the flat surface. Is there a tool for that?

Had lots of problems with Internet in Olympia... as mentioned I'm only about 10 minutes from the steps of the State Capital yet it is rural.

Comcast quoted 12 to 14k to bring in cable... out of the question... spent $1500 taking out some large firs so a dish would work... my tenant didn't like it because there were issues when overcast and it was expensive.

The previous tenant was good freinds with my nearest neighbor and they have Comcast... so they set set up some Netgear equipment and it worked OK... except for the few times it was down and needed to be reset and the neighbor was not home.

That was a one time deal so it's out of the question going forward.

I wish I understood the terms bridge and 10k in real world application...

My other choice is Comcast said if they happen to find a 2" conduit from the house to the nearest utility pole and someone were to enter into a 2 year business agreement... there would be no installation charge...

Basically, a bridge carries IP traffic from one end of a wireless link to the other duplicating the properties of a cable. When equipment is set to bridge mode, it is not setup for anything other than end-to-end transmission.

Hope that helps. I can start a separate thread and go much deeper into it if anyone desires.

There are many, many wifi yagi antennas on ebay and amazon that will do wonders for a long distance wifi connection.
