Hey you weren't kidding about needing sunglasses to look at that puppy, I think I have sun-burned corneas the light is so bright reflecting from your grapple. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
A nice ending to your project, it looks real good from where I'm sitting. Very professional. I especially like the little touches such as the grease zerks.
Now why not take it out in the field and get us some action shots, make it earn it's keep from this point forward..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
You're going to love working with it too. I just came in because I ran out of daylight. Have been moving a large pile of trees that I cut so that one of our employees can use them for firewood this coming winter. Grapples are a blessing in disguise.

I took this double stumper out for the neighbor this morning. I drove about 200 yards like this. It just goes to show you that you don't have to crush what you pick up, you just have to hold on to it /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I estimated these stumps to weigh in at around 1200 lbs. No match for the ole' L3430, if fact it's almost warm enough for alittle air in this cab /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

By the way, I have found use for my old “L” shaped arms ----- A three point, 3 blade subsoiler attachment or an attachment to bury conduit or water lines underground. I can't wait till January and February 06' roll around /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

You especially, were a inspiration to me on this project. I watched you post for post on your project and said, I can do that, and with alittle trial and error, I did it. That said, how did we do all these things without the grapple /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. This I know will be THE most used implement in the barn, not including the mowers /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. The most time and labor saving device by far. I will post more action shots later in the summer as I get into the log pile.

I'm wondering if your FEL may have dual personalities. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The left arm thinks it's a LA513 while the right arm thinks it's a LA723. Am I seeing correctly?

One more project like that and you have paid for your welder. Then you will justify a plasma cutter, then horizontal bandsaw, ect. ect.
My wife is usually understanding about tool purchases because she sees them getting used and making our work easier. She was understandingly upset when I accidentally left my auto darkening welding helmet uncovered in the rain this last week. That was a big mistake. It’s one thing to buy a top notch tool once but another to not take care of it and have to spend that money again. Actually I think I’m more upset than her. It was hard going back to my old welding helmet again.

You fellow tbn'ers just don't miss a trick. I started this project with a 513 loader on the tractor. Friday morning as the paint on the grapple was drying, my dealer brings me a 723 loader to install. It was rather neat the way the photos turned out and I was wondering if anyone would notice, you did. BTW, I just wasn't satisfied with the performance of the 523 loader /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. That's a story for another post.

Boy, I caught it from the hydraulic police on one project /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. I corrected that on this project /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif and now the loader police are after me /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. I give up /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

My wife is the same way. I usually have no problems buying anything as long as the cost will justify itself. I've been working with all kinds of tools for nearly 40 years and one thing that I always remember to do when closing shop for the evening is accounting for the tools I used that day. It's a shame about your AD helmet. Did you try to dry it out??? Sometimes a hair dryer works wonders on circuit boards. It worked on my coffee soaked garage door opener /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif.

Eric I have a friend in the dock business and he lost his helmetafter 3hours on the first job it was on in18 feet of water. 7and a half hours later when he was ready to get wet he retrieved it. That was a year ago and hes still using it. Hope yours dries outit would help to change batteries after that to.

Bill, I saw your numbers (thanks) and have spent a little time with them. I was trying to see what placements would give you a 90 degree or vertical opening. When you switched from the 90 degree arms to the boomerang style, it threw my model off and I don't have all the numbers I need. I have almost reverse computed the rest of your numbers. So, here is roughly what it would take to go vertical.
The front cylinder rod pin would have to be moved forward approximately 5 inches to give you a C-D dimension of 18" or so. Looks doable, hard to tell (except that those c-clamps seem to missing now /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif).
The rear cylinder pin would have to about 4" behind and about 6" above the grapple arm pivots.
As for crushing cars, I understand that. I was thinking since your loader can probably lift 2,000 lbs+, it would be nice if you could hold something clamped vertically as heavy as you can lift. I looks like when your grapple is open 4" you still have about 1100 lbs of force, and around 550 lbs at 2". So I guess this plenty. You probably won't run across a 1000 lb rock or piece of steel that thin that needs lifting vertically, so it should be fine.
Anyway, playing with the numbers has been quite enlightening.
