My First Real Tractor!

How about this for a food plot instead of discs? Then maybe run over with a tiller?

Looks kinda like a chisel plow.

Pasture Renovator - heavy equipment - by dealer - sale

Or a box blade with rippers?? Trying to find something cheap to chew up the ground with and that is possibly multi functional!

That thing will stop you like you threw out an anchor. Try something way smaller.

Box blades are often advised as 'universal' attachments but my own personal experience is I graded the driveway I bought it for then never found a use for it again. And actually, back-dragging with the loader bucket leveled the new gravel better than I could do with the box blade. Others may offer better advice.

The least expensive implement for your application, food plot tilling, might be a 3 ft disc. Expect many passes. I don't think larger is a good match for a 1700. My 3 ft disc bogs down the YM240 if I ballast it too much trying to get it to dig in. Here's an old post I put up discussing this, with a couple of photos.

Rototillers are nice but expensive!

Would it really?? I just need it to dig about four inches or so. I could even remove a tine. Only reason I ask is one, I like the price haha. And two, I had an 8 HP Sears Garden tractor that weighed about 600lbs and would pull a middle buster 8" deep. I figured this thing would pull that 4-6" no problem. Let me.know your thoughts. I don't need it to dig 8-10" for clover and oats.

That's basically a box blade without the box.

I have used my box with rippers for what your talking about. Then disk. I also have a field culticator/chisel plow/springtooth harrow. It has 5 feet. It dense grass or ground it will stand the tractor up. Yours with a fee less HP would not do as well. These tractors main problem with ground engaging Equiptment is they lack the weight needed for good traction.

I paid $200 for my 4ft box blade with the rippers. That's the size you need too.

Is that a 48" or like a 42" ?

But that's the same one I have. I have an LMC 48" but mine has 4 teeth. It will pull them fine through the grass or dirt for food plots. The box ends up plugging up with grass and dirt clots. Best would be to spray the grass with glyphosate a few weeks prior so that it's starting to rot down before you rip it if possible.

Thanks guys! Still looking, I have an idea of what size stuff I need now.

For a disc, how big of a disc can I get? Weight? Single or double gang? How wide? Etc?

I picked up the bush hog today, it's actually not that bad just needs a little work.

I have another question, given that this tractor does not have a live PTO. If I'm switching from a Forward gear to reverse do I need to push the clutch in and completely wait for the mower to quit spinning before switching into reverse?
