What I meant was I already have my potatoes planted. 1 row about 105 ft. long... 14 1/2 pounds... Almost didn't find them around here because it was so late when I planted. Couldn't get in the swampy garden LOL.

By contrast, we are annoyed that the seed companies ship so early - we can't put them in the ground for another month or month and a half or they will rot before they sprout.

Do u cut your potatoes and leave at least 2 eyes per piece, or do you plant a whole potato? I cut them and leave 2 eyes on each piece.
Never tried it another way. I used advice from "The Bayou Gardener" AKA "Webcajun" Donald Ducote on YouTube. That man KNOWS his stuff!

I like the pictures of you garden and tools. I did not see a picture of the "must have" implement, however. I enjoy gardening, but do not have enough space. Maybe it is good that I am limited a bit. Here are some plants that I have started, and just itching to put some in the ground. I do like tomatoes, and give a ton of them to neighbors and friends, so I grow a lot

Here are some of my plants:

It depends on the size of the potato. Many of the seed potatoes we get are pretty small, so we plant the whole thing. But we cut the larger ones.

Ok sorry for the late update on the garden. Been busy and it's too wet to get in the garden, which is a good thing because the potatoes needed water. I looked at it today though and the dirt has started to crack down the middle of the row.

Sorry for not posting the pics of the "must have" implement for the tractor.. It's the Dearborn 13-2 Field Cultivator. It's a Category 1, 3 pt. hitch. It was originally sold for the Ford tractors. It came standard with "points" on the tines, but I added "sweeps" because I plant on a row. You're able to plow the ground, incorporate fertilizer, lay off rows, cultivate rows, open furrows on top of rows, and whatever else you can think of. The "tines" and "shanks" can be adjust to fit your tractor or ground engaging needs. Very very tough, versatile tool. I Highly recommend it. You can find them used on the internet. If you wanna buy new, Fred Cain Equipment manufacturer makes them. Dearborn implements are no longer made.
It was originally made for 2 rows on the rear of the tractor, but this thing is like 50 years old and somebody cut it down to one row. I'm not a farmer, but I just hate it when old farm equipment gets cut up.
I also posted a couple pics of my row hipper. I wouldn't say this tool is a necessity for a tractor for gardening, but it sure does make it easy for building rows and bringing dirt up to the crop. Since I already have the row hipper for my tractor, I never plan on selling it or the cultivator.
But if I ever had to get rid of any of my attachments for some odd reason, the cultivator would surely be the last to go.

I hope y'all like the pics as much as I enjoy posting them!

Got the garden rowed up. Planting today because there's supposed to be lots of rain coming starting tomorrow.
Pics shortly!

Love that cultivator, I will be using my hiller/ cultivator this year for the first time, if the snow melts by July. I'm learnin all about mud season, and boy did I just ruin my road for the next month. (never grade a very very wet road)

Yeah I hear ya about the wet road! I'm on a dozer right now pushing back overgrown roads and trying to open ditches. It's a mess!

I went out this AM, great intentions, dug down 1 foot, then I hit solid frozen dirt. Haha, I got to place on 1/2 length of culvert and that was with some swearing. I had to get across the swamp some how. I forgot what this was all about, and what a learning curve it is. That's what 25 years in Florida does to a Mainer.

I have never tried starting seeds inside or a green house before. Honestly, I've never had interest in it come to think about it.

Well I didn't get the garden planted today like I planned!! Got it all rowed up and 3 rows opened with the middle buster then got a call to go operate a dozer. I worked longer than I thought and didn't have time to plant. Looks like I'm not gonna beat the rain either. If we don't get much rain tonight I'll plant in the morning if I don't get a dozer call again.. I thought for sure I'd beat the rain for the weekend.

On a positive note, this evening I got to see 2,, YES TWO!! potato sprouts barely popping up out the dirt!! I was so excited about the new birth of 2014!!
Will get pics tomorrow if the weather allows me. That rain sure is gonna help the rest of the sprouts pop up from under the crust.

Well we got a huge amount of rain yesterday and it's raining as I type this. A lot more coming this evening, tonight, and tomorrow and we are even under a tornado watch right now. I still haven't got anything planted besides the potatoes. But I do have it all rowed up. But I'm probly gonna have to re-till all the rows and row it up again after all this rain is over with... Although I haven't got to plant anything else just yet, Here are some new potato sprouts! Makes me VERY excited to see!!!

Nice looking garden, I'm still indoors, , but my land is hilly and under snow at this point. What kind of potatoes do you grow?

I'd love to be up there in that snow for a while.

I only plant Irish Potatoes and Red LaSoda is the variety.

I want to plant Kennebecs and yukon golds. Been too many years for me to recall what my father planted. The coop ext service tells me those are good choices, but there is always a learning curve. I plan on putting maybe 75 pounds of seed, maybe yielding 400 pounds, but I am not certain of those numbers.

I planted a row about 100-105 feet long and it took right at 14 pounds of seed potatoes.

I was so excited about the new birth of 2014!!

Looking Good! Always great to see that first sprout. I grew up on a cattle farm where we needed rain for some things and needed it not to rain for others. Hang in there.

Thank You for the kind words.

Me and another person I've known for a long time, who is many years older than me, we're looking at the garden the other day. He just stopped by to see it. That's when I noticed the 1st 2 potato vines coming up out of the dirt. Made me extremely happy and excited.
