Well today It was -8 degs. And I was letting the tactor to run to warm up the Hydo. Started it and was set at a idele and went back in the garage. In about 10 min. I could hear something strange, I opened the door and all I saw was smoke and the tractor was screaming . I went to the tractor and the tack was pinned at 3000rpms. Humm Did not want to shut the key off at that RPM's being a trobo charged motor. Didn't know what to do . Finaly it stalled and was knocking really bad. . I called the dealer and spoke to a service rep and I was told It was running on the crank base engine oil being pumped through the trobo charger.I guess shut down because it hydo locked from the oil being pumped on top of the pistons. Well checked the engine oil after things settled down and there was no oil on the dip stick and the ground was covered with oil that was blowing out the muffler. 126 hrs. on the tractor and was bought on 7/2014. .... The Dealer was here within 1 hr. with my old 5030 as a loaner. Now just waiting to see what the damages are. The problem is that the crank vent was frozen I was told.

Hate to say it, but it sounds expensive to me. Might need the engine rebuilt or replaced. Still under warranty?

Wow - talk about a spectacular engine "dismount". Old worn-out diesels (not new ones like this) sometimes run away on crankcase oil - but by scavenging it up around the worn rings, not from having it pumped in by the turbo. Sounds like something in the turbo failed, allowing pressurized engine oil to leak into the airflow to the engine. The engine may be junk now. Can't quite visualize how a plugged crankcase vent would set off this disaster. BTW, if it was running away on engine oil, turning off the key switch might not have saved it - might have kept going.

Frightening situation. Thank goodness its covered by warrantee & what sounds like a very responsive dealer.

YIKES,glad you have a warranty.Hope all goes well.

Yeah, I bet if you turned the key to off, it would have not stopped it, I think a runaway can be only stopped by plugging the air intake.

Glad you have a good dealer and the MX is under warranty. Sounds like a fluke situation. Better now than after warranty. Very odd for a Kubota.

Well.. I guess all those stories about "runaway diesels" is the real deal! Sorry to hear you had the one to have that experience!

I honestly, don't think I would be able to choke off the air quickly enough to save the engine on any of my diesel tractors, though. The huge, double filter air cleaner assemblies... About the only thing a guy might do would be to wrap a big garbage bag over the whole assembly.

But... If you finally got the motor shut down and found out that it only had a 1/2 or maybe only a quart of oil left... might just be better off to replace the whole engine, anyway.

Thank God, you're still under warranty!

There is a jeep video on youtube that would show what I had going on !!!

Several years ago, I had to try the old "plug the air intake" trick on my little BX for some reason involving operator stupidity. Even that little 3 cyl. running at idle was going to ingest anything that got in the intake. It never did shut down using that approach and it finally shut off when I found and reconnected the loose wire to the shutoff solenoid.

But fair warning to anyone thinking of trying it on a larger engine that's wound up: you wouldn't believe the suction that's involved. Think jet engine intake, not lawn mower engine!

Rabcon, sorry to hear of your misadventure. Thankfully, it sounds like the dealer and Kubota will take care of you. Keep us posted.

I had a similar situation last winter while moving snow. My crankcase vent froze up and the engine revved a bit and then spit the dipstick about 15 ft into a snowbank. Fortunately I was able to shut it down prior to runaway. There was no other damage to my MX5100, other than the skid mark on the seat!
Hope your dealer can get you fixed up Pronto.

sounds like the tractor had a major problem that caused the engine to blow up.

You should get a new engine. Went through something similar many years ago on a Deutz engine appication. We had hydraulic pumps with defective seals that allowed hydraulic oil to pass into the crankcase. Eventually it got so high it foamed, was drawn through the crankcase ventilation into the intake manifold. Gradually that oil took over and the engines went out of control. I talked to one owner who was shaking from the experience. When he realized something was wrong and he couldn't stop the engine, he dismounted and raised the hood. That multiplied the perceived noise - he said he took off running because he knew it was going to explode. Like yours, however, it died from being choked to death. We gave all 5 customer's to whom this happened new engines - it was the right thing to do. And we immediately redesigned the hydraulic pump drive so this could never again happen.

Well I stopped at the Dealer this morning, and the problem was that the engine venting system was froze up. Which caused the engine to force the engine oil into the intake just befor the torbo in the intake tube. Which caused the engine to runaway burning the engine oil. So now the dealer is in contact with Kubota and trying to get a complete replacement motor. I will update when I get more info . There is a update kit on some models to stop this isue but I was told this is the first MX5200 to have the isue.

Good to hear your dealer is on top of the problem! They're your best ally with the corporate negotiations.

What does the update kit do to stop this problem?
