I am looking for a new or used gearbox for a John Deere MX 6 Rotary cutter. The output shaft on my gearbox sheered off and appears this is a problem that John Deere is aware of. Please advise if you know where one can be located.

:welcome: to TBN

Have you found some of the threads that have addressed this problem? Also, has your Deere dealer been working with you on the problem?

I have checked with John Deere and awaiting their response but in the main time I am looking to see what might be available because I am in need of the bushhog.

dnphillips The is a cheaper and more reliable gear box .It comes attached to a Bush hog rotary cutter ready to work. No need to look back when any thing interrupts the steady hum of bush hogging.

I after very few hours of use had same problem. and purchased a 286 Bush hog and so far 4 years have kept 80 acres of brambles and small brush cleaned up. Beginning to look used while the carcass of the MXC6 still has a high gloss.

If John Deere cared about your problem they could of designed a fix or replacement instead of just sitting mum and letting others spend there money on repairs.

I have purchased my last piece of new equipment. still buy parts and oils from JD
My 4520 getting older and when decide what to do know what not to look at. I lost $3500 for a mx6 and they lost my future purchases.

That is where I am at. My son has bought 4 John Deere tractors, I own 2 John Deere tractors, my daddy owns 1 John Deere, we own 4 John Deere bushhogs of which the 2 six foot have broken shafts so I am thinking my next one will probably not be a John Deere unless they offer some help on repairing. checked on replacing gearbox with new version but have to replace blade holder for a total of about $2400.

Kind of gets you where the bill fold is kept.

Shame a company that had a following of which never looked at other brands has decided to take the China and cheaper metals they produce as partner.
The first gear boxes were built in Spain then Mexico and China
came up with even more profit so they went that direction.
Best wishes on your decisions. Come to think more of this a wall of mx6 carcasses would make a good cattle corral.

We probably pay too much for the name anyway but expect quality equipment in return

The newer ones that the problem has been corrected on have a castle nut and pin and did away with the snap ring / bolt.
The groove for the snap ring was where the shafts break. It is a definite design flaw and Deere messed up I think by leaving customers hanging - BUT the newer ones with the latest gearboxes made in China are good cutters.
The ones with the Spanish gear boxes are the ones giving fits.

Dusty my gear box was China bought in 2008 and busted in 2008 the box covered by Warranty started in 2010.

First Spain and Second China both had the stupid groove, third is China with the nut. I have the third and it cuts great.

In Crittenden / Lee / St. Francis crops are outstanding other than what the Mississippi got. Late flood got just about everything planted behind levee.
What is crazy is all the milo. I have never seen that much planted here. All milo, no cotton, very little corn. Rice is where rice always is and looks great.
Wheat beans were late but have had enough rain they look good.
Early beans are waist to chest high.

Dusty this is the first year that had to drain the garden to be able to plant peas.
Need to take a trip to see North Eastern Ark again.
As soon cooler.

Our garden corn was good this year.
Peppers and tomatoes flopped it was so wet early.
Squash was late but it finally came on and is still doing well.
This sub 100 degree weather and just enough water the okra has gone insane one row about 50 feet planted in okra is giving us a big bowl full daily.

If you come over this way you wouldn't believe all the milo, its everywhere. Kind of crazy, when I was a kid this part of the world was solid cotton, now none.
