Must remove the hitch?

Because I would not want to be thought of as either lazy or inconsiderate, I'm thinking about removing my rear bumper anytime my truck is not being driven. That thing sticks out a good six inches.

i'm not sure what keeps those people from walking into the concrete parking bumpers and light poles!

Only hitch I ever walked into is my own, in the driveway, walking around the truck to get to the other side of the toolbox. This thread got my curiosity up so a couple days ago I walked up and down the parking lot at the grocery store to see how many vehicles had hitches or racks of some kind. About half of the vehicles with hitches had something in it. I also found that to get close enough to walk into someone else's hitch you have to be completely on top of the vehicle in the first place. It is quite a bit easier to walk into one of those Star Wars bike racks. Made me wonder how many here have in fact walked into someone else's hitch.

Yup pat, you really have to be hugging a vehicle to run into it.

This is what bugs me. I never would have imagined there was a problem with folks banging their shins on someone else's hitch. How close do you need to be to their vehicle to do that?!? How do you avoid rubbing down their tailgate as you scooch by? And if your jacket is open so the zipper is scraping along, or the key ring hanging off your belt, the metal rivet on your jeans...

I understand the other rational arguments like because you don't want it to rust or get stolen. But someone may bang into it? Well, quit damaging the paint job on my truck and it won't be a problem.

Yup if the can bang into it, their arm or something I rubbing down my truck, lil you said, keys tivits, etc. Only reason to be that close is to look into the back of my truck to snoop? On the flip side, my truck is farm used so it has plenty of scratches. But if you rub down the side of my truck not only will your shin hurt, but you will need to wash your shirt and pants!

Maybe that's the ticket - leave your truck dirty enough and the inconsiderate folks will leave it alone!

I walked into a hitch exactly ONCE!. It was my daughters tahoe. I knew the hitch was there because I sold her the vehicle.. But like an idiot I walked around the back to get something out of the vehicle, and was focused on door latch and banged my shin on the hitch.. I cursed something about a blankety blank idiot and went on with life. The idiot was me.. and I haven't done it since. I learn real fast!:D

Any one remember the swinging draw bar on the older tractors. put it pinned in the middle for a trailer or to the right to pull a plow and it also was the step to get on tractor .lose the pin and step up to have it slide across the draw bar. leaving you stepping wide
ken.
