I have a Murray 3.5hp (don't laugh...$99 special ) push mower I had stored/years. I changed oil, sharpened blade, etc., runs ok but surges. This is the cheap throttle-less one and I was going to add a cable throttle but should I keep the vane & spring mechanism? If so how? Without it, it could of course run wide open, unless I install it so throttle won't fully open?
I don't like the surging. 20200421_165645.jpg

Oh, I put the on off coil kill switch on it, and new primer bulb (old one hard as plastic). Carb & tank are spotlessly clean.

Disregard. I fixed it. After posting I realized all I had to do was operate it manually first.
I had to fabricate a bracket for cable mounted to flywheel shield.
No more surging, it runs wherever it's set. It idles really low like I'm guessing 300 rpm. I cut about mid throttle.20200421_183014.jpg20200421_182944.jpg

Doing is learning. There is no substitute for experience.

You know that you have disabled the governor, right.

Yes. That vane/spring is the governor. When I get in tall grass I want her wide open!
Actually I hardly use it. The little I have and will it will be half throttle, maybe 2k rpm.
