I'm looking for basic to in depth information on the mulching. I'm am making the first steps to starting a land clearing/mulching business. Right now I am in the research stage just looking for opinions, personal experience and information on all aspects of this business. I have already started looking into equipment and have scheduled to rent a Terex PT110 Forestry package w/ Loftness G3 head to test on 15 acres I have. Any info on this machine ,before I take it for a test drive, I should know about? Pros and Con's?

I would be happy to visit with you on the phone and let you know what FECON has to offer, we've been building quality forestry equipment in the USA since 1992.

Do you already have any large contracts lined up? Will you have to finance the majority of the equipment? Do you have cash for the slow times? Class "A" cdl drivers license? Have you priced liability insurance?

If you are clearing land with one of those monsters..... You will mulch to whatever depth the tress and brush you are mulching will leave. You don't get to say 4"deep or whatever.

I will be financing the entire business. I have some money for personal bills and such. I roughly 50+ acres a family farm property to start with and yes they will be paying for the services. Other than that no I don't. Once I get through most of the paperwork part I planned to start talking with developers and I know several local farmers that need work. Should I be trying to get contracts already? I am still just at the very beginning stages so I figured that would come later. I will be going to see a cpa and bankers Monday to make sure I'm gathering everything they require. Any suggestions on banks or other places to finance my company?

Do you have supplemental income or a wife that works? The reason I ask is that I've been self employed in ag service for almost 16 years, and it can be tough financially (and my equipments paid for). Also, how do plan to collect your money (upfront, during, or after), and what do you intend to do if someone doesn't pay or is slow pay? The reason I ask is that I've been there (many times). I generally run at least $15-20k in accounts receivable (has gotten as high as $135k). Granted, I've only been stiffed out of about $5k total in all my years in the service business.

I have planned to continue working my current job until the company has some good roots set. I'm also working nights so I'll still be able to put in work during the day still. I haven't figured out how exactly the billing process works. I have been trying to decide if I should start with a base hourly rate for starters bc I'm not sure how to charge by the acre or so on. Any suggestions on this?
