Muffler cracked

I think emissions is 5 year not 2. I would have your dealer get your DSM involved.

This is the latest version of the muffler. Totally different. New brackets and all. I think this is the 4th revision on this issue. Hope this helps.View attachment 589730

I bought one of these kits, after my attempts t fix the old muffler failed a couple times (welding skills are not very good). Anyway, the bracket they sent looks totally strange. Does anyone have a picture of how the new bracket works with the old one? It does not appear to have a way to adjust the alternator belt like the old one did. Also the bracket at the end of the pipe does not line up with the rubber mount on the chassis at all. I am not sure how this is supposed to fit. Thanks.

Perfect! Thanks so much! I never would have figured out that bracket. So they eliminated the rubber bushing at the end of the tailpipe I guess.

Yes. The muffler mounting is completely above the frame, it moves with the engine. I tried to put the bracket in without a drawing or picture, I made it a lot harder than it needed to be. Good luck!

Got the kit installed. With the shorter muffler and larger pipe, it is a little louder than it was. Maybe it is breathing better. I don't know if that helps power or not.

Not sure about power, I haven’t noticed anything. I’m just happy the muffler isn’t cracking.

Mahindra replaced the original muffler on my EMAX22GEAR when it failed after 150 hours. But now, less than 30 hours later and 11 months, the pipe just fell off the muffler. I don't know what to think anymore. Do these engines run so rough that it just shakes the mufflers apart? Mahindra has replaced the loader bucket because of cracks and now the muffler has failed 2x. I bought the tractor new in February of 2016.

It's an epidemic!!!

I was running the tractor last night and I heard a ticking sound from the engine. When I slowed the rpm down a bit it went away but 5 minutes later the engine tone changed. Seems the rubber exhaust pipe shock mount at the frame deteriorated and the vibration of the pipe broke it at the muffler.

That muffler design/mount even looks a lot more beefy than my Kubota L48.
Perhaps your Mahindra diesel really does shake and rattle more than others.

Barry, in your pictures I don't see the rubber mount (frame) at the end of the pipe. Did you remove it?

Your replacement muffler looks like the old style. The new one is twice as heavy and so are the brackets. If Mahindra won't replace it again, I'd bite the bullet and buy the new kit. It is rock solid once mounted. I don't think it would give you anymore trouble (knock wood).

The old rubber tail pipe clamp was a design flaw. The new style is mounted solid between the alternator bracket and the motor mount so the whole thing moves with the engine.

Take that thing to a welding shop, they can weld it up and add some reinforcement- probably lot cheaper than buying a new one! I did that once on a smaller tractor (rather than spend 2 or 300 $), and it worked out perfect! You see, it failed in the weakest location, so if that is fixed, you are usually good to go.

This is the replacement muffler installed the the dealer. There is an empty bolt hole down near the bottom of the muffler pipe that appears to be missing something (pic attached)??? Did the dealer leave something off??

Yes. If you look at the parts breakout on the Mahindra site, you will see the "L" bracket, rubber bushing, and pipe clamp. I bought my tractor used, and the only thing left was half of the L bracket, so I ordered these parts and re-welded the old style muffler. It didn't last, so I bought the new kit. You end up discarding these parts with the new style muffler. I still have the L bracket, bushing, and clamp. You are welcomed to them if you decide to weld your old muffler.

Picked up the tractor yesterday. The dealer replaced the muffler. Pics to follow but at first glance showed the pipe was twice as thick.

Follow up...

Upon close inspection they used a smaller muffler body with a thicker tail pipe wall. The tail pipe went from 1" to 1.5" OD and it was rigid mounted to the frame. How long do you think the new 'design' will last when one end is mounted to a engine on rubber mounts and the other end is bolted to a non moving frame? Probably about 5 years, just out of warranty.

I cut a section out and replaced it with stainless flex exhaust pipe, two clamps. It now has wiggle room.
