Roy, there is the option of an external PTO driven hyd pump and tank for those tractors with weak flows.

Still curious about the cost... I bet its scary, lol.

Has anyone actually priced the swingtrim or the Bush hog Power Trim? I've been considering this for some time for waterfront trimming.

To solve this problem, I bought a Hardee boom mower (model LR 50160). This is a 60 cutter head attached to a boom on a 3 point hitch PTO driven attachment ($17,400). It has its own hydraulics system driven by the PTO. The attachment is controlled by a joy stick that is permanently installed inside the tractor cab.

The weight of the attachment with its hydraulic fluid and counter weight was too much for my John Deere so I bought a used New Holland TL100 (2003 model with 2100 hours; not a TL100A). It is a 95 horse tractor that is much heavier than the John Deere. I paid $30,000 for the tractor.

This combination purchased in July 2013 has worked very well for my needs. The cutter head is tough and cuts small trees (3 to 4 inch diameter) well. Because of the adjustments that have to constantly be made to the cutter head position to account for the changing terrain, I drive very slowly while using the boom mower. You have probably noticed that county employees using boom mowers beside county roads are also traveling very slowly.

Bottom line, I am happy with this solution.
