I got this rear mower from a friend of the family with very little information. I can't find a manufacturer's name tag or any other identifying features.

It's a single point hitch mower with two sets of rotary blades. It's about 6 feet wide. The PTO shaft drives a gear box, which drives belts to turn the blades.

The former owner used to use it to cut grass on their property, but hasn't used it in several years.

It's painted red and I don't see evidence of it being repainted. What you see may be the original color.

It think it probably requires more PTO horsepower than my B7800 will deliver. That's the main question, but I'd like to find out anything I can. If I can't use it, I'd like to find out what it might be worth and sell it or trade it for other toys - I mean attachments.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Jeff

My dad bought a Bush Hog brand in the late 50's or early 60's, but it was a 5ft. single blade. The gearbox on yours and the hitch both look like the Bush Hog. I don't remember it having any metal id tag, and the decals have been gone for a long time. It's still out behind the barn, I'll try to see if I can find any distinct features that might match yours.

I can't help you with mower ID, but I think you'll have plenty of PTO power to run the mower. Is this a finish type mower or a brush cutter type? Check your owners manual and see how large of a rear finish mower Kubota recomends. At worst, hook it up and give it a test run if the running gear on mower looks safe!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sure looks like an older Woods to me. I saw one the other day, I think much larger than this one, but it was set up just like your pictured mower. Probably is a repaint as this is an old mower, I'm sure. John

Thanks, all. I hope to work on getting this mower (whatever it is /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) sharpened, lubed and in working order over the next couple of weeks.

Again, if any knows what it is, please let me know...

I've seen a number of these in JD colors & stickers at farm auctions. I believe JD outsourced them, but it might help you track down whomever made it.

Update...
I finally had some time to work on this mower. After cleaning it up a bit and crawling around and under it, I found a manufacturer's name tag. Turns out it's a;

Woods Rotary Mower
Model 50 B
Serial # 7625

You can find the pix and other info on my my personal web page

Best of all, it works! I should post pictures of the field I cut with it.

Thanks to all,

JMZ
