My ford 4500 tlb has a box-steel crossmember spanning the loader arms. How about a reciever hitch for a winch on there?
The loader bucket would be turned down, the weight off the front tires and the tractor raised slightly by the loader downpressure.
The winch would then be above the loader with all the straight pull stress being transfered to the loader structural arm pins, then to the down to the steel tractor frame.
No cast iron would be involved here.

Chuck, I use mine that way and have had no problems. I have pulled hard enought to lift the rear tires off a few inches with the loader dug in. I don't recommend pulling that hard, but I had no problems.
I did this when pulling a 78000lb truck out of a field and had a block purchase on it.

It's been a while since I started this post but I'd like to add to it. I mounted a 12,000# harbor frieght winch ontop of the loader on my ford 4500 tlb. I welding a hitch reciever to channel iron.
It pulls great, I replaced the old generator with a high output alternator. Again, it pulls great. Picked up a remote for the winch and that was a fantastic add-on.
I got the extended warranty and every two years get a new hf winch. I was told to do that by the store mgr. of harbor frieght.

Am I reading this right? They replace the winch ever two years? And do they take the old one in exchange or do you get to keep it? thanks

I bought the extended warranty. For two years if the winch breaks, I return it for a new one. Then I pay like $72.00 for another extended warranty. This is really not ethical, but the sales mgr. at harbor frieght told me this is what he recommends.
When you skid logs, the winch really gets a good workout and gets hot. The 1200# winch is a good product and is strong. Problem is they aren't designed for long use and by the time 2 years of skidding is up, they are pretty well shot.
