Nice photo.

I never was a motorcycle cop. I remember the mounted and motorcycle guys use to have to spend a few thousand dollars to buy all the leather gear when they joined the unit. I hope they got lots of phone numbers in that getup. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You know it /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Actually the NYPD use to have cars that were green, black and white but that was long before my time.

Me, neither. When I was in recruit school the chaplain asked the class one day how many wanted to be motorcycle officers. He said he always got to know the motorcycle officers better than the others because he visited them in the hospital. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

At least by the time I started, the department paid for all that, but I heard some of the older guys talk about the days when they had to buy their own. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think horse-mounted might be even more hazardous. When I first met and married my wife, she was in her department's Special Operations division, which (for that department) meant horse and motor patrol. The motor training she got was her first real experience riding Harley's, but she'd been on horseback all her life. They spent about 50% time on each on routine patrol, and yet it was the horse that put her in the hospital. Even a well-trained and calm horse can be unpredictable in an urban patrol environment.

Picture this....

Returning home from work, a blonde was shocked to find her house ransacked and burglarized. She telephoned the police at once and reported the crime. The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the radio, and a K-9 unit, patrolling nearby was the first to respond. As the K-9 officer approached the house with his dog on a leash, the blonde ran out on the porch, shuddered at the sight of the cop and his dog, then sat down on the steps. Putting her face in her hands, she moaned, "I come home to find all my possessions stolen. I call the police for help, and what do they do? They send me a BLIND policeman!

( That reminds me of the old "Chips" show. I wonder if there are any re-runs?? )

I don't know if there are any re-runs on the T&V, but I saw Eric Estrada on the tube while I was on vacation.

The Today show had some kind of nostalgia thing going, and throughout the week, they had celebs from the '70's and '80's on the show as guests. They had Estrada come riding in on his motorcycle, wearing his uniform from the show. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Actually, he didn't look too bad for being an old guy! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I have to admit, I always did get a kick out of that show. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

This year at the Selfridge air show they had all the local K-9 units there. It was very cool. Interesting stuff and demonstrations. You certainly have someplace nice to go visit to see your boy. Not that we have ever needed a extra excuse to get to Vegas every couple of years /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Dave
