Morals are part of the religious beliefs of the citizens. There is no accounting for some peoples lack of morals, when it comes to the tolerance of others. An example would be a person that shoots a doctor because he/she doesn't like the philosophy or actions of the doctor. This person might be a very religious person, but they believe that their moral rights supersede the rights of the doctor. This is a result of the shooters moral upbringing. Morals are a uniquely individualistic idea. What might be wrong for you to practice, is perfectly OK for me to practice based on our different views of "morals". I don't believe that you can differentiate between city and country dwellers. It is more individualistic than that.

Well said!

Reminds me of a line in the 60's song, Eve of Destruction ..... "Hate your neighbor, but don't forget to say grace."

I don't know about the moral part but I believe country folk are a lot friendlier than the city folk. Seems like the bigger the city, the more in a hurry everyone is. Meet a big city person on the street and most likely they won't even look at you. Meet a country person and 9 times out of ten, they'll say hi or at least acknowledge your existence.

Billy, that isn't morals, that is courtesy. A completely different subject, albeit a important one that would go hand in hand with morals. Now, I will admit that country folk are more friendly when you meet them, but that is because their lives move at a much slower pace. City folk are also friendly, as proven by the blackout of 1965. If fact they were so friendly, that 9 months later, there was a baby birth boom. In times of peril, city folk will help their neighbors just as much as country folk. This type of city vs. country friendliest debate kind of reminds me of the city guy that goes to the farmer to buy a mule. The farmer says that he has just the mule for the city dweller. This mule will do anything you tell it to do. The city dweller takes the mule home on his pick up and when it comes time to unload the mule, he tells the mule to "get off the truck". The mule just stands there. The city guy tries to push, pull, coax, and coerce the mule off the truck to no avail. He then drives back to the farmer and complains about the mule. The farmer picks up a 2x4 and whacks the mule over the head. Then he tells the mule to "get off the truck" and the mule complies. The farmer then tells the city guy that "all you have to do is get his attention". Moral of the story is........ once you have the attention of the city folk, they are friendly also..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Unfortunately, the bad ones also try to inflict their ideas on the good ones....... or is it the other way around? The difference between "good and bad" depends on what side of the issue you are on. Does might make right????? End of debate... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK... here's another kink. Where do suburban people fit into the mix? Not quite city, not quite country.

Very eloquent and true. I have worked and lived in the big city and small town. My impression is that people in large cities just have a faster pace of life than people in a small town. Years ago I was involved in an auto accident (young girl ran a stop sign and I was hit broadside) and my injuries caused me to be sent to a Chicago hospital to a specialist. Those big city doctors and nurses were the nicest people I have ever met. I think some of our small town medical professionals should be that compassionate. There are good people everywhere, unfortunately so are the bad.

I usually find morals growing in the country under cedar or oak trees in mid-March in central Texas. They are best batter-dipped and deep-fried but they are also excellent sauteed. Don't usually find any morals in the city.

We are talking about mushrooms here, aren't we? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I have a theory about the friendliness of city vs rural people. I believe that the "cold" attitude and unfriendliness that is perceived of city people is due to the fact that when you live in a high density population, you create an artificial sense of privacy. We who live in the country get to enjoy the luxury of true privacy, and therefore do not need to create it. Urban dwellers create this privacy by ignoring the other people around them, and taking the position that what others are doing is not their problem. I truely believe that most city people are not being rude, they are actually being polite by providing you with your artificial privacy by not intruding.

morals:

hummm.

well just because you are religious does not mean anything about morals, remember the war we are in right now!? all about religion over there becasue WE are UN-MORAL to them. but we are stringer so maybe might DOES make right!? who is to say. remember most of the worst and mass deaths of human history was all due to religion, so way i look at it is maybe John Lenon was right, ("Imigine" "if there was no god not country no wars") ect while I'm no beatles fan he did put it to use the people.

now for city vs country, morals is more way each person acts/reacts to each other and to each others feelings rights and self being.. that being said I think that cuntry folk ARE better at the old addage live and let live. I also live by addage live by sword die by it..

I belive we are right in stopping SODAMINSAINE and kicking him out, I don't think we are right at Policing them into OUR way of thinking. but then I don't think that spending 87 BILLION on them is the way either, why should we BUY their likeing? it won't happen. we will still be the infidel amoral americans who want to detroy their way of life...
