Why does Kubota not offer a MMM on any tractors larger than the 3940? The 4240 and larger tractors have a much stronger loader than the 3940 but the MMM is not available. Checking on the Deere website they have MMM available up to 60 hp tractors. I would love to have a 4240 with a MMM.

I cannot answer your question, but I bought a L3940 because someday I too thought I would want to mount a 6' MMM. Once I started using my Woods RD7200 on my L3940 with HST trans and how easy it is to mow fast/slow/backwards, I no longer see the need for the MMM. The rear mount mower is so easy to take on and off when other task comes up. The MMM I bet is a pain in the butt to remove and install. Plus, with the MMM on, you will need to pay attention to ground clearance when using FEL or doing other tasks. I came from a 8N, and with the Grand L HST, the ease of use is night and day, should be similar experience to your 961. If I had to do it over again, I would get the L4240 and put on a rear finish mower. But, your needs may be different than mine. Are you looking for a dedicated lawn mower? Philip.

Once a tractor gets to a certain size a MMM seems to be impractical. A 60HP tractor with a MMM could scrunch the MMM in the blink of an eye if it is hooked on something or the ground is such that the mower gets bottomed out under the tractor. For a MMM to take the wear and tear of a 60HP tractor on top of it would have to be one heavy duty MMM. I am not knocking a MMM. But if I had a MMM under the B7800 that I have owned for three years it would look like a 'tater chip by now.

The tractor will not be primarily for mowing but it will mow 3-4 acres in the summer among doing other things. I would have no issues with a rfm for myself, but my wife i'm afraid would have a hard time with a pull implement. She has used the riding mower at our current house and does very well with it. I grew up with a B8200 with a MMM and can remove/install it in about 10 minutes and the new ones are supposed to be easier. That tractor and mower are approximately 23 years old and both have held up extrememly well. Maybe what I should do is buy a RFM and let my wife use it on my parents tractor before I buy and see how she handles it.

I used to mow 7 acres with a lot of trees, with a RFM on a NH TC33DA, with a hydro. I never wanted the MMM. Nor felt I needed it. the RFM was great to mow under the cedar trees with the hydro, you could back up to them quickly and get under them. A MMM would not have done as good a job in my opinion. I dont know why your wife would have a problem with the RFM, mine never did.. I had to fight her for who was going to mow sometimes.

Went through the same thing with my L3700 and wife. Ended up getting it with the RFM and the wife had concerns. She used it and is not fine with it - like most things it just takes a little practice and getting them over the initial concern.
I too would be afraid I would destroy a MMM on a high HP machine... it would not take much

I have a BX1860 with a MMM and had a L3940 with a 7 foot RFM. If you have alot of obstacles I would go with a dedicated mower like the BX or a Zero Turn. If you have larger areas the RFM is the way to go. With a Hydro trans that FRM is alot more manuverable than you think.

Thanks for all the replies. Still not sure what i'm going to get but at least there is a lot of time left to decide. New house won't be finished till August and then will probably buy something in spring 2012. What I might do is buy a RFM and run it on my 961 or my parents Kubota this summer and if the wife is good with it then go that way.
