mistakes using yanmars

hey just for the heck of it what are some of the mistakes/bloopers you made useing your tractor,so far the only one I've made is I keep for getting the parking brake,, I mean I notice it right after I start ,oving but should of caught it before engageing clutch.. good way to burn brakes up I think

The nifty Yanmar powershift makes it possible to shift from going flat out in road gear directly into reverse without ever gnashing a gear. The shift is so quick, smooth, and powerful that its possible that the first thing that you will notice is all the smoke and noise from the tires. Or maybe it will be how the steering wheel has hit you just right to keep you from being thrown right over the hood. Or it might be the hooting, catcalls, and shrieks of laughter from you buddies as they urge you to "DO THAT ONE AGAIN"

Or was it when I discovered that a small Yanmar with large turf tires shouldn't try to cross a creek in flood? Made it about half way across when the tractor began to float and was swept right downstream.
Gentlemen, you don't have to make your own mistakes....just follow me around for awhile and you can see with your own eyes what not to do.
That dang creek was only about a foot deep even if the water was moving at a pretty good clip. For a moment I couldn't figure out what was happening.

Lets see... I've done the parking brake thing... and what else... oh yes.. while boxblading one time, my left side chain 'limiter' ( sway chain / stabilizer? ) came loose, allowing the right lower lift arm to contact the agtires...lifting the arm, bending the adjustable connecting link...

Couldn't have been the straight link I could have welded.. no. sir... had to be the adjustable one.
Lets see what else.... When i park the tractors in the barn, I like to pull up as close as possible to the wall, shut down the tractor, relesae the clutch, etc... One time the engine was making it's last rotation before completely stopping.. I let the clutch out .. there was just enough momentum left to propel the tractor 1.5" forward... except the wall was only about .5" away... impressive sound.. wall shook... tools fell everywhere.. all the horses turned around and looked at me, etc...

I'll definitely agree on the parking brake issue. It was bad enough the first time I did it, but I'm still doing it! As much as I despise "idiot lights" I may need one to remind myself to disengage the parking brake /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif.

I agree with the powershift and parking brake. I have found an interesting way to do slow speed wheelies. Hook up your box blade and "find" a 6" hidden root, just go over the root in third gear with the blade down and the tractor will try its best to stand upright. Good for one adrenilin rush and a long break.

This is a good one. Lets see, the parking brake thing numerous times, gashed my knee on the compression release climbing off once but my favorite was using the box blade to rip sod in low range, making a pass at 2400 rpm, stopping, shifting to high range, backing up to make the next pass at 1000 rpm, stopping, advancing throttle to 2400 rpm, shifting to second gear, FORGETTING to shift to low range, letting out clutch and its OFF TO THE RACES! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif. My back still hurts from that one.

1)Used my 155D to put my boat into the water on a fairly steep ramp (19' ski boat; not too big, but not tiny). Luckily the boat/trailer started floating, taking some weight off of the tractor just before the tires hit the water. Yes, the brakes had been locked up, with the rear wheels sliding, down the last half of the ramp.
2)Using the front loader to move a dump load of top soil, on a slight slope. Got a scoop of dirt, and raised it real high to 'settle' it in the bucket. The ROPS I had put on immediately after buying this tractor paid for itself in a nanosecond as the whole rig went over on its side.
3)Burning a pile of trees/branches, using the FEL to keep everything pushed in together - if the excess grease on your bucket fittings starts burning, you are probably too close to the fire.
4)Too many dumb little things to mention (did you know that if you catch your roll bar on a telephone pole guide wire it will lift your front wheels off of the ground?).
