I just bought a used JD310C Backhoe and someone replaced the filter inside the hydro tank. He did not seal the hole that he cut in the top of tank therefore water got into the system. Since then I have drained tank, sealed hole good, removed all lines and pumped out what I could of the cylinders. I know that I might have to change fluid maybe a couple times to get all the milky out, but my question is when I fill hydro tank , do I have to prime hydro pump or will it pull fluid to pump? another thing is will I have to fill cylinders or crack lines at cylinders to let air escape? or will pump fill cylinders ?

If the tank is full, the tractor should prime itself.

As far as air in the hyd system, just cycle all cyl many times to purge the air. If you continue to have air in the system, check the suction hose for leaks.

Sometimes milky fluid can be caused by air in the oil as well as water...

Emulsified fluid is very different from air entrained fluid.

A question for you J_J . If you work the tractors hydraulics hard enough so the oil gets above 212F will the water boil off and clean the system?

Don't think so, besides, that kind of temp is not good for hyd fluid.

When there is water in the hyd fluid, other chemicals are being made.
