Mid mount mowers.

I currently have a 25 horse International bare bones tractor and a Mahindra 1538 with FEL and aux hydraulics front and rear. I had considered buy a sub compact tractor with fel and mid mount mower. FEL to clean out barn and mower for mowing. How many people with this setup like their midmount mower or wish they had just bought a slightly larger tractor and a rear mount finish mower? Finish mowing 2 acres. Currently I buy a new riding lawnmower every 3-4 years.

I have a SCUT with a mid mower. If you need more maneuverability then I would suggest it. It would be impossible for me to mow some areas I have with a bigger tractor or with a mower on the back. I dislike needing multiple tools to complete a job. When I'm done mowing with my tractor I'm done mowing and I don't need to get out something else to get the places I've missed.

i would like to know why you need a new mower every 3-4 years on 2 acres. I cut that amount now and my mower is 22 years old.

Part of what I mow is a horse pen, Sandy and rough, partly I’m near the gulf everything rusts and I’m a big guy 6’4” 270. It’s not a manicured lawn. The mower decks don’t last long. Around here the disc brakes have a layer of rust on them after 2 days of not driving . Every place and every situation is different. I keep my trucks 20 plus years have 20 plus year old generators and table saws just have short life on mowers.

Why not buy a heavy duty zero turn? Even at $8k to $10k it's cheaper than a new mower every 3 years. Or just bush-hog it.

I have been using a mid mount mower now for 13 years. I like them but it seems a lot of people don’t. My current tractor is an auto connect deck, which is much easier to take off and on.

Is the 1538 too big to do the work in the barn? If that is the case, the SCUT with a mid mount mower and FEL will serve 2 purposes. A commercial grade z-turn would do a much better job mowing and should last many years but you can’t clean the barn with a z-turn. With a mid mount mower you can get closer to trees and other obstacles than with a rear finish mower. The rear mount is generally easier to take off and put on unless you have one of the new auto or quick connect mid mount mowers. Rear mount finish mowers are going to cost less than mid mount. If the barn floor is level and clear enough to just leave the mid mount mower connected all the time you could dedicate the SCUT to those 2 tasks.

I have 2 acres and got a ZT last year. Very pleased. Takes about an hour to cut with the 54” deck.

I have a '91 JD430 Diesel with a 60" MMM that I bought in '93, and I used it to mow and remove snow until October 2019. I got tired of switching from mower to cab and snow blower and back every year, so I bought a 2005 BX2230 with a 60" MMM and FEL and use it for mowing and dirt work around my property. So far I haven't take either the FEL or MMM off except for maintenance. I haven't had the need to remove either for any other reason so far.
I mow 3 acres in the summer, so the mowers got a lot of use. If you were buying a new mower every 2 or 3 years, they were junk.
