Mid-Mount Mower blade speed ???

Do MM mower blades spin faster than rear PTO finish mower blades? 540 vs. 2100 RPM or does the MM gear box simply reduce the speed? I think you can get a better cut with a faster spinning blade based on commercial lawn mowers but I think does not make it true.

Depends on the gear box reduction on the MM Vs the gear up on the rear finish. Yes typically faster blades will help with the cut if all other components are the same. Seems like deck style which effects blade performance and also blade style play factors in the finish cut. Only way to tell would be turn the input drive shaft a turn or ten turns and count the number of revolutions the blades make. Then figure out the blade RPM at input speed of either the 540 or 2100 RPM.

Blade tip speed is maxed out at about 18,000. Depending on the deck it might blow the grass away especially with a square cornered fabricated deck. Many companies are going rounded edge like the Kubota's for better finish cut. Remember, wind doesn't blow around square corners!
