mf 40 pto

hello,this seems like cool web site.Ihave a question? My neighber has a MF 40 for sale.It needs a water pump. But for 1500$ It not bad,runs good dont smoke,but no pto. The cover is there for pto Can it be added. Thanks for any insight.

Depends on what transmission driveline it has whether it will work the way you expect. Is tractor shuttle trans, forward/reverse torque convertor drive, single stage 6 speed foot clutch trans. Does tractor have three point hitch, if not probably has no pump for front of PTO shaft drive as it gets it's drive through a gear that shifts forward to couple shafts together. If tractor has a loader and backhoe it may be missing all internal parts needed for PTO drive.

I have an MF40 I just bought as a project. It has a working PTO and 3 point hitch. Mine has the manual shuttle shift, a large lever on left side of dash to switch between forward and reverse. This model is best if you want to use the PTO and hitch. If you don't have manual shuttle the hitch system will only lift when you are driving forward, then it will fall as soon as you stop. A real pain if you are using an implement like a shredder or box blade. I would not buy a MF40 unless it has manual shuttle.

this tractor is low high.there is a foward,reverse pedal on the right,the 3pt hitch only picks up when moving,but will stay up when you stop.

Forward/reverse torque convertor drive is not best for PTO work as it will turn PTO backwards in reverse. Three point scotch yoke pump will work ether direction, but will only lift if moving or when hi/lo is in neutral and ether forward/reverse pedal is used as drive is from transmission. Was a good backhoe/loader outfit but poor for farm use as PTO and three point need live power to be worth anything.
