MF 294 PTO

I just acquired a MF 294 and it has a 6 spline PTO shaft output. The selector lever allows either 540 or 1000 RPM but how do I change the shaft for the 20 spling coupling I want to use. Is the shaft removable and reversible for the change or do I need to replace the shaft?
