friend of mine borrowed my extension ladder to work on his 12 - 12 metal roof --- tied the ends together and stretched 'em over the ridge - musta worked.

Sounds kinda complicated, we just threw a rope over the roof, tied one end to a ladder and the other to something on the ground.
