Hello. I was just down at my dealer and we were talking about using a back-hoe attachment on my ford 1910 tractor. He had an older (looks like a build date of 1986 on it) Mazzotti brand hoe attach. It runs a pump off the PTO and hangs suspended off the 3 point. It has two hydraulic feet that you lower to stabilize the tractor when digging and you sit on a seat facing the hoe when operating. It's got a little 1 foot wide toothed bucket. I'm needing a small hoe, and was wondering if anyone else has used this brand? I'm not trying to remove stumps, just dig some holes for trees, landscaping, fish ponds etc. I know it will never be as good as a dedicated hoe but for $2500 it might do the trick? I just don't want to damage my tractor nor buy a "pig in a poke". Any thoughts or experiences would be welcome. The 1910 generates about 27-30hp I believe. Thx .

Don't know anything about a Mazzotti hoe. Just look at the components and how it is made. Look at the clearance underneath also. I had a 3-point hoe, it dug to 7' and was quite handy. I had it on a larger tractor with a beefier rear end so didn't run the risk (as much) of breaking the housing. I sold mine used for $2500 and upgraded to a larger unit with a 4-point mount. If you keep yourself within the capabilities of the unit you should be fine. How deep does it dig and does it have swing "cylinders"?

I have that exact Mazzotti hoe & got mine used as well. It is a STOUT piece. I was using it on the back of a 50HP Same' tractor and it wiggled the tractor around when I dug up some palmetto bushes. I only see one drawback from using it - the leg-room is tight. You CANNOT safely stick your feet in front of the footholds. I need more legroom, and am considering making it a frame-mounted piece and getting a dedicated tractor for it. That way I could dig w/the hoe and still have the 3-pt stuff available on my Same'. I'd give myself some additional room and move the seat back away from the controls so it is comfortable. You can download a PDF copy of the Owners manual.

I know I need more practice with it, but need the 3-pt for other things right now.

I don't think you'd be disappointed with it... Like I said - its stout!

Thx guys, yes I saw two cylinders on the bottom for moving the hoe left & right. And yes, I agree it does look pretty stout and it is way to heavy for one man to lift or manouver around so setting on a dedicated rack I think will be critical. There is no filter for the hydraulics on the unit but I suppose the amount of use it gets makes that non-critical. So is $2500 the going freight for a small hoe attach that is 25 years old?
