Markham Toothbar Help

Anyone got a Markham toothbar installed on a standard 66" Kubota bucket? If so, could you please measure the width of your toothbar for me? I'm getting ready to call in my order to Markham and want to be darn sure that I come up with the exact, perfect fit for this bucket.

Just tell them your exact inside measurement and they will build it a little shorter, mabey 1/4 inch or so.
I think mine came about 3/8 inch shorter then bucket width.

Larry, just measure the inside width of your own bucket. That will tell you the exact length to fit. Now when you say you want a "perfect fit" that might mean different things to different people /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Does that mean you want it to fit tight inside the bucket? Personally, I'd measure the inside width of the bucket and order a toothbar a quarter of an inch shorter than that. That way it's relatively easy to put on and take off and an eighth of an inch on either side can simply be pulled tight by the bolt on each side, or you can put one washer inside the bucket on each side. It's a lot easier to put a spacer on either end than to have to hammer it on and off when it's too snug. Yep, I used a 4# hammer myself to get mine on and off. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif But I guess some would say it was a "perfect fit". /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Once you receive the toothbat you will understand why it is manufactured about 3/8" narrower than the inside of the bucket. Without that "slack" you would have a very difficult time installing and removing it.

Among other things, you will end up with dirt and wood chips wedged between the bucket lip and toothbar. Having some wiggle room allows you to shake the bar to get the impacted stuff loose when removing the bar.

Just follow their instructions for measuring and give them the numbers, you will be fine.
From their website:
"When Ordering: We will need the measurement of the inside of your bucket 8" back from the tip of your cutting edge. ( The full Inside measurement From Side to Side) "
If I remember right, they said they cut them 1/4" shorter than the measurement that you send them to insure that it fits. When you get it you will see that its really not that critical anyway.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Guess I'm being a little too cautious. As Bird mentioned, I don't want to be hammering this thing on and off.

By the way .......... just in case anyone's interested ........... Markham no longer ships their toothbars on skids with motor carriers, which was not cheap and had an additional charge for "residential" deliveries. They now use UPS Ground and quoted me $25.00 for shipping.

Yes, I ordered mine about 4 months ago and it came UPS. One of the mounting legs was also slightly bent and had fragments of concrete on it so someone had dropped it at some point in shipping. No worries though, a decent sized hammer and it was straight again. Thats kind of what I meant about the width not being all that precise, as long as it fits inside the bucket, the legs can be adjusted some for a nice fit.
