It can still run good with a bad injector running fuel past the rings.

It is pretty easy to tell if there is fuel in the oil. Rub a little oil from your dipstick between two fingers. If only oil it will be slick like oil should be. If it has fuel in the oil it will be less slick and will 'clean' your fingers so that it feels like there is almost nothing between them.

umbrella seals can leak on an injector pump, depending upon design of course..

Could it be the fuel pump? Took the injector pump apart and see no seals whatsoever that would let fuel leak into crank case. Am sure it is diesel not hydraulic oil. Changed oil again, ran for 3 hours and it added about 10 ounces to the gallon of oil I used. Fuel pump bolts into the crankcase sump, think there must be a seal on the fuel pump plunger, if it is bad, think fuel would leak into crankcase.

That's what happened to my JD 820. New fuel pump fixed the problem.
