Hi,

A buddy has an old panel delivery van. The body was all aluminum sheet and that has been delivered to the recycler. What is left is a steel frame and dual wheel single axle that is probably 12k rating. The van was 16 or 18,000 pounds. We were thinking about turning it into a dump trailer using some old I-beams we have laying around. All that fab stuff should be pretty straight forward, except for the dump mechanism.

Anybody got a link for a drawing of the dump mechanism?

Also, anybody know what the general steps are in getting a trailer rated for capacity and licensed? Just wondering if it's a nightmare or not.

There are probably several different ways to do it, I'm guessing you'll have to find the one that works best for you...Will the axle be at the rear, or will it be more forward? As for the rating and license, you probably need to find a trooper and visit with them, or the local DMV office.
