I saw a picture here of a guy who connected some sort of 10 foot or so pole to his FEL and was using it to lift rafters in place. I think they called it a "beam pole" or some such.

Does anyone know where I can buy such a beast, or exactly how they connect to the FEL or how I could build or jury rig one ? Can't be too complicated, but sure beats my last solo build of a 30x30 metal building where I had to hoist the 300lb trusses into the air suspended at either end from landscape timbers stacked vertically on end strapped to the corner posts with pulleys dangling 15 feet up, using come alongs at either end. Would sure like to lift with my FEL instead this time !

I made one from 3 1/2" pipe for my old Backhoe. I simply welded a piece of 4" channel across the bottom end to sit on the cutting edge and have 2 chains that run from the end of the pipe to hooks on the top of the bucket. I ran a chain all the way around the bucket and dogged it tight to keep it sitting on the cutting edge. It worked great to sit thr trusses on my shop. I sold the backhoe, but kept the boom pole to use on my son's skidsteer. HTH. Later, Nat

Couldn't get the thread to come up Ron. Could you please check it, as I'd sure like to look at it. Maybe its my browser or something. I'll keep fiddling..
