I’m gonna repaint my Ford 2000 with Majic paint, I’ve had good luck with this paint, but wondering has anyone used it in the motor, can it withstand high temps, or do you have to use motor specific paint ?

I see a lot of guys here with freshly painted tractors, do you just spray everything even the motor with the same paint ?

I would not use the (TSC) Majic paint on any tractor.
It is cheap junk!
Sherwin Williams sells quality implement paint!
Use hardener too!

For me, Majic has not worked out. My best bet is with factory OEM paint. Doesn't cost much more and is usually superb quality.

It's difficult to paint an engine unless you "detail" it by masking all the wires and protecting things from overspray. A good job looks great while a bad job means the guy should have just pressure washed it and left things alone.

So with the Sherwin Williams or OEM paint we can paint the motor too ? We’re gonna mask everything off

It will burn off of the exhaust manifold and it won't stick on anything that has oil/grease/dirt on it but, WTH? Paint it anyway.

The most important part of a paint job is the prep work. How clean it is, how free of oil, grease, dirt, rust, imperfections, dents, etc.

The paint itself is relatively inexpensive. If you're gonna go through all the trouble of all the prep work, including masking and making sure you don't get overspray all over Mama's new car (you can get hurt doing that) then go ahead and buy some professional qualty paint and borrow somebody's spray gun (better yet, borrow the spray gun's owner). You can buy one but good ones aren't cheap. Do you need a good one?

Or if you wanna just slap some paint on there and call it a day, that's okay too. It's better than not doing anything at all.

Good luck and tell us how it works out. Pictures please :)

You need heat paint, often called UHT--ultra high heat paint and even that will generally burn off.

"Username taken" in the prior post offers some good advice.

I can paint, I've got a cheap Devilibiss primer gun, and a $400 Sata I use for finish on cars, just wasn't sure if any of these paints were designed to be used with high temps also ?

Unless it's specifically for exhaust manifolds (which is sometimes quite the process) it's gonna burn off. It's a PITD.

The last headers I cared about were Jet Hot coated. New.

That was many years ago and I stopped caring about such things, so it might be different today. But, to me, by the time you remove the header (manifold) get all the rust off, paint it or coat it, find gaskets and put it back on -- Only to have the paint/coating start coming off in spots and the manifold start leaking exhaust (hate that sound)........

Sounds to me like you know more about these things than I do anyway.

PICS!! :)

I always painted motors with heat paint, but never a tractor, figured it might be different because it's out in the open. I'm gonna pull all the tin, have it media blasted and shoot them separate.

Paint it with the same paint/color. Most any paint job looks ok if a guy masks it off. Dont paint belts hoses, any rubber aint sposed to be that color.

So you used the same paint and it held up good on the motor ?

I always thought tractor engine blocks were painted with the same paint as the rest of the tractor. Except for the exhaust, the engine parts don't get over about 200 deg F, which isn't that tough on paint. Just my thoughts, I never actually painted a block.

That is actually Imron Industrial. Its not quite as smooth as the truck/airplane grade but lotso cheaper and if a guy is fussy not too bad. But the crap from the JD is so so and seems some of it is unpredictable. The Imron is perfect. I bought some new plastic for the 2640 and it was flawless match, put a drop on and couldnt tell the difference.
